I've got an FBG walk on at 9.30 am. I am leading it, as the original leader is unwell.
So, I have to get the attendee list, make sure I have the Section Map and get myself to the start point on time.
Hopefully I feel more energetic after it!
ABOVE: Another happy snap of the daughters from their get together yesterday. So nice to see them all together.
ABOVE: After my walk I'm going to Mitre 10 to find some cheap wood so I can make some trays like this for my birthday lunch. With any luck they won't be hard to make!
I went off the idea of just having the food on the top of the table/bench. This way (on trays) I can have some out on the BBQ table, and some inside.
Then of course, there is always some housework waiting to be done. As I'm always saying, that shit never ends!
ABOVE: I took this late last night, I really ♥LOVE♥ the 'runner'. It's in 5 sections. We are going to wait and see how handy it is as 5 separate blocks before perhaps linking them together. Stew doesn't think they need to be physically joined in some way. I'm still of two minds.
There's still two more sections to be finished off... I will probably do that today or tomorrow.
Oh and I have enough of the little blocks of fabric to make a table cloth for either the dining table or the BBQ table too. Another little project waiting. *smiles*
ONWARD...
I'm now going into Hamilton to look at trays at K-Mart/The Warehouse/and anywhere else I might find some.
Might be cheaper in the long run, instead of making them?
Oh and MARIA: my little melamine trays are far too small to use for all the food! Fine for each person to use as their 'plate' though.
4 pm: Well I spent a very happy 3.5 hours in Hamilton!
I met up with Stew first for lunch, we went to a cafe near his work place:
ABOVE: I wasn't sure about it... not sure if there would be anything there that would appeal to me, and not too hot!
But I was very happy with my pork and shrimp rolls and side salad! Stew had a soup thingee. Everything was super fresh and lovely.
Best thing? NO SWEET cakes or slices to tempt us. And nothing like a pie or sandwich either. I highly recommend Saigon Noon, corner of Collingwood and Alexandra Street, Hamilton.
After lunch I went to various shops around Hamilton... and ended up buying all sorts of stuff, but couldn't find any platter type things.
ABOVE: Paper bags for markets (single use plastic bags will soon be a thing of the past), ribbon for toys, felt, plastic glasses, plastic box for the sewing room, a new toy for the girls (dogs), little bowls and some jewellery clips which might work to join the runners together?
IF I decide to join them together *smiles*
I had lots of fun shopping today, and got lots of incidental exercise going from shop to shop too. Incidental exercise is great!
ABOVE: I KNOW I've shown you this part of the garden a few times already! But come on... those flowers are stunning! And they just keep growing taller. I LOVE THEM.
Right... I better sort out dinner ... cos I've got another walk on at 7 pm!
ABOVE: A lovely big group of us tonight! The golf clubs were out on the road, free for removal. We left them there *smiles*
Home now and relaxing for the rest of the evening.
how about you use all those little trays you collect?
ReplyDeleteWhy not use ordinary trays? They would make great platters. You can buy then fairly cheap in Kmart etc.
ReplyDeleteI think the runners would be better joined - how about a couple of little fabric tabs underneath with a little velcro on? Enough to keep them together but not thick to make them no sit neat. Also the button idea would work.
Haha oh Molly giving me tongue 😝 lol gosh she's a bloody lovely dog Kelly, that was a really good arvo/evening 😊
ReplyDeleteYep I think we all needed a good catch up.. and yes My Molly is such a kind hearted soal.. even when you fell over she come straight to your side..
Deletelol 😂 I didn't fall over lol I tripped with style lol 😂
DeleteWhat about hook and eyes for the runner panels? Discreet, yet they'll hold...?
ReplyDeleteLOVE your kitchen runner. Removable sections- Brilliant. I think you could use any platters as well. They will be so filled that it will look lovely. I'm going to save that picture with all the different ideas on the trays. It looks lovely and there is so much to choose from. No matter what someone's dietary restirictions are- there is something for everyone. Even a gluten free tray. You look great in your walk pictures. Your persistance is really paying off. You are inspiring me. Unfortunately, Chicago is heading towards our icy months. I need to find a way to NOT make that an excuse. - Renee
ReplyDeleteHi You could have a variety of platters, different shapes and sizes, glass, ceramic wood etc..might look good too ?
ReplyDeleteLooking good in your pic.
Peta
Another idea for the platters... large picture frames or large mirror with frame - it might work.
ReplyDeleteYes Lynda, I had already explored that possibility. But I really want more 'rustic' platters so it's a 'no' to photo frames.
DeleteHi Chris, platters are an awesome idea! I know youyare doing it yourself, but thought you might want to look at www.theplattercollective.com for ideas. It's my cousinco business. They do a lot of corporate catering and are likely expensive. But I follow them on Facebook amd their platters are very diverse and interesting, might give you more ideas.
ReplyDeleteWood platters are a good idea. My sister looked at photos mounted on blocks of wood for wedding favours, way too expensive. So they bought MDF, cut it into blocks, sanded it, painted it and stuck photos on themselves, which cost a fifth of the price.
My point is use your creative genuis!
ReplyDeleteWhat about various sizes of wooden chopping boards? If you are going to do it all yourself, start buying the "ingredients" now so you have most of them and splits the cost over a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteChopping boards are a bit pricey. And yes, I am already getting food accumulated.
DeleteYou could use wide pieces of board of various lengths as platters. I don’t know what is available over the ditch but Steve would know. You could give them a light coating of vegetable oil before adding the food.
ReplyDeleteDee
Have you thought of using wide planks of wood from the timber yard in stead of platters. It could be a cheap alternative
ReplyDeleteDee
I bought those exact wooden trays at Kmart today! $12!
ReplyDeleteReally? I didn't see any at the Hamilton KMart today ... OR if I did I might have though they were too small!

ReplyDelete$12 bamboo tray Kmart trays are 5cm (H) x 50cm (W) x 31.8cm (D)
Those bamboo trays were exactly what I meant for you to get at Kmart - great size for putting out in different places or placing some together. You could then sell them on Trademe later if you didn't want to keep them (but they'd be great to keep for future events like your card evenings etc).
ReplyDeleteLoving the garden,,,and the wee waiter pic as well there,,, among all the other bright posts,, as well today ..Well done you!!! on the fitness,,, and also the lovely blues in the dining area ..
ReplyDeleteSo many comments today! I also thought the melamine trays, of course! But if they are too small.... Such a pity. That a great picture of your daughters. I thought the licking creature looked like a cow. It's a strange angle from under the face. I LOVE your FBG group. So many people turned up. Thats just awesome. Oh - and the giant runner. I think I would leave it separate for now. I could see myself wanting to use half the bench to make something and not wanting to move the whole runner. You will see in time and can adjust accordingly!
ReplyDeleteAre those purple flowers LUPINE? I think we have those growing near our home in Northern Minnesota!
ReplyDeleteLOL would be funny if the person that put out the golf clubs watched you all pose with the pics
