PRODUCTION LINE

 

It's a slow start to the day for me.

I'm in no hurry to get moving...

ABOVE:  I have the next three Scrappy Dolls to finish, it's staring to feel like a production line.

There's four more ready to work on as well!  So, once they are done, I can move on to the next project.

Not sure what that will be, I know I have plenty of EVERYTHING, so I might even just make a few coaster as 'giveaways'.  It will help pare down some of the scraps if nothing else.

ABOVE: This one one of the jobs Stew attended to on the weekend.  This MASSIVE succulent was starting to tip over, it is so heavy on one side.

Now it's safe from certain destruction.  I love succulents, and this one must be many years old.  It would have been a shame for it to topple over.

There is a Village Morning Tea on today, so I shall wander down there later.  It will be a nice break from the sewing.

ONWARD...

ABOVE:  It's 2 pm.  I've been a busy beaver.  I got the next three Scrappy Dolls finished.  So now there's 7 differing faces.

Who knows how many more I shall come up with?  Maybe a few, maybe no more?

I went down and had morning tea with a bunch of Villagers.  

My plans after than was to catch a bus into town, and go to David's Emporium for more buttons for Scrappy Doll's eyes.  They are way, way cheaper there than at Spotlight.

I mentioned at morning tea where I was going next, and one of the village residents offered to drop me off in town, as he was going in there as well.

So nice.  And off we went.  Once in town, I rang Stew and we had lunch together.

Then I walked to David's Emporium and got the buttons,  and a few other bits 'n' bobs.

ABOVE: After shopping, I walked down to Anzac Parade and caught the Orbiter bus outside the Police Station.  About 35 minutes later I was dropped off, and had a short walk home.

ABOVE: You get to see so much more on the bus.  I really enjoy it.

It is quite a cold day today, windy, cloudy, with odd spits of rain... I'm so glad I wore a decent jacket.  My very colourful  jacket in fact.  Gosh I get a lot of comments about that jacket!  Even in town, complete strangers comment on how lovely and colourful it is!

I am now really cold, so might just sit and warm up before doing much else.

5.10 pm and I just got two more Scrappy Dolls finished.  I will show them to you tomorrow.

For now.. I'm done for the day.

Stew will be home within the hour, so I might just sort out some sort of light dinner for us.

My objective yesterday was to do some new Scrappy Doll faces.

Today is craft group here in the Village, and I will no doubt go down and make more Scrappy Dolls, using the new faces.

But first, it's the day I do most of the housework.  So that's what I will be doing for the first couple of hours or so.

3.40 pm.  Clearly no one missed me?

Pffffffft.

Well, my day went as planned.  Got all the housework done.

Packed my trolley and took off to Craft Group at around 10 am.

I spent 4 hours joining bits of fabric together for Scrappy Dolls, then did three faces.

Once they are made into dolls, I will show you them.  They are slightly different from yesterday's faces, but in the same vein.  Cute.

There were quite a few ladies turn up at the usual start time of 1pm, and we stayed there a bit longer than usual.  Lots of chatter, laughs and lemon cake, of which I had none. 

I'd taken down a salad to have for my lunch, which was rather nice. 

In other news.  I got an email from our bank this morning, seems there's been some 'unusual' activity on our credit card, so they have blocked the use of the card.

Stew sorted it out. Seems two online purchases we made recently got charged TWICE by the retailer.  Just as well the bank noticed before we got a monthly statement.

Luckily also, the bank reversed the charges, and we are not out of pocket.  We now just have to wait for a new credit card ( which we use very infrequently I might add).  I think our days of buying things online are over.

6.50 pm, and I'm ready to sign off for the day.

I did a shit load of work today and am tired.  I doubt there's much on the telly to watch.. as per usual really.

So, might be an early to bed scenario for me as well.

HOW DID HE DO?

 

Blondie asked me yesterday how Stew has coped, being back at work, and at the market yesterday?

He is tired.  His knee still pains him, and it's going to be a long while before he's 'semi back to normal'.

He managed quite well yesterday at market, bearing in mind we share the set up and pack up, and he gets to sit and relax 'mostly' during the market.

Today I think we will be having a very quiet day.

No going out and about, just lounging around.

Well, for him.

I plan on having a go at making a new Scrappy Doll 'FACE'.  Some people have commented that my Scrappy Dolls faces are scary.  So, I am going to try and make one with a less scary face.

So there ya go, my plans for the day.  Keep an eye out for the 'new' Scrappy Doll....

9.50 am. There were a couple of other questions overnight about yesterday's market.

1.  The cot quilts got a bit of attention, but no sales yet.

2.  I put out 6 bags, and two got sold.  So a good result.  All up I've made 23 bags so far, and 9 of them are now sold.

Stew has gone to do his weekend shop.  Then he's gunna watch a rugby game he taped.  After that he's going to potter around doing a few little odd jobs.  

Me... I'm now off to Crabby Quarters.

11.30.  And I was working away on a Scrappy Doll, and get a phone call from one of the ladies here in the Village.  I had forgotten I'd put my name down to go on a little trip to the Waikato Vintage Textile Fair with her and a few others.

So I rapidly grabbed me jacket and bag and raced out the door to meet them down at Reception.

ABOVE:  We all piled into the Village Van (11 seater), and off we went.  That was my first time in the Village Van.  It is a very swish vehicle.

ABOVE: We got there just as it opened, so not too many people there.  By the time we left it was quite crowded.

ABOVE:  This caught my eye.  NOT because I liked it, but because it was hideous. Who would 'wear' an entire animal around their neck?  Like WHO?  It really was ikkk.

ABOVE:  I found this lovely length of black, sparkly lace, which I will possibly put along the bottom of a black shift dress.  I will need to make said dress at some point.

Most of the stuff at the fair was not my cuppa tea.  Lots of vintage clothes/jewellery/fabrics, linen and so on. And the prices?  Outrageous on the most part.

So, I know not to go to another one.  😊 It was nice as an outing with other villagers though.

Stew has suggested we go out to lunch, so I suppose we shall.  But right now, I'm heading back into Crabby Quarters, until he's finished watching his rugby game.

8.33 pm.  Well it's been a little while.  We had a lovely lunch out, then came home to do some more work.  Stew did some stuff outside, and I did some more sewing.

Dinner was nothing, as our lunch ended up being at 2 pm.

I'm now feeling a bit off, just tired I think.

I've taken some panadol, so hopefully I feel better once I go to bed.

Stew did well pottering around outside this afternoon, he put our pig weather vane back up, and the glass buoy.  He also did the edges of the lawns and a few other little jobs.

So, we both had a good, productive afternoon.

Now... just chilling out in front of the telly.

IT'S GOING TO BE A WET ONE

There is no getting around it, today is going to be a wet day.

We might be lucky and get to set up without getting wet, but later on in the morning, IT IS GOING TO RAIN.

And it's forecast to just get worse as the day goes on.

WONDERFUL.

And I am crazy enough to still do an outdoor market.

I know Stew is less than keen, but I'm just dead set on still doing the Tamahere market.

RAIN.  HAIL. OR CYCLONE.  Well... maybe not a cyclone!

I am hoping by still going, we show our commitment to this market, and the organiser gives us a really good, new spot going forward.

In fact, the spot she is giving us today IS a good spot... so maybe, just maybe it will become our new spot.  I hope so.

Right, time to be going... wish us luck, and some customers!  Cos, being wet there might not be very many.

ABOVE: And here we are, all set up and ready for the day. We've kept our set up small and tucked in due to the rain,  it is drizzling on and off right now.

Luckily it didn't rain while we were setting up.

In fact, the drizzle has arrived hours before it was forecast.... grrr.

There's about HALF the number of stallholders here today, they don't like rain obviously.  😅🤣

9.07 am. It's stopped raining, for now.  But its cold just sitting here...

ABOVE: It's time for THE HAT. Next market it will be full winter wear, lots of layers. I will enter the ESKIMO phase. Lol

We are very surprised! We have been making steady sales all morning,  which we really didn't expect. There's not been that many people here, yet we've done well already.

Just over an hour to go till we can pack up and get home. 

I was just sitting here bemoaning the fact that I'm short, cos I find it hard reaching up to put up runners. And Stew said "Yes my little quack quack".  Meaning my arse is too close to the ground, just like a duck.

Nice man.   🤣😅😂

2.44 pm, and we are home, unpacked and finally sitting down and relaxing.

We were SO LUCKY today, aside from a brief shower around 8 am, the weather stayed fine.  Cloudy, some sun and not too cold.  I was so relieved.

We totally expected a miserable day, and miserable sales.  But at the end of the day, we did good sales and had lots of lovely people visit our stall.

Now I'm gunna just sit and watch the telly, do a jigsaw and be lazy.   I'm cooking some 'pre-made', frozen Dumplings for our dinner, so that's easy too.

ABOVE: Well... those dumplings will have to wait.

We are at Lone Star for dinner.

I had an afternoon nap and when I woke up, cooking was the last thing on my mind.

Bring on the Lassoo of Hog...

ABOVE:  Well, that was delicious.  You can always rely on that meal being amazing.

And the service was top notch, and the time between ordering and delivery was amazing as well.  

Home now and Stew is so happy... he's watching rugby in the front room.

I'm watching some crime doco on the telly in the lounge.  Perfect ending to a neat day.

PREP TIME

 

It's been a whole month since our last market, so I have to do some prep work today.

I want to pare down the number of runners we take to market, as the weather is not looking too good for tomorrow..

I heard from the market organiser late last night, and we have been given a 'temporary' site for tomorrow.  It's a good spot, right next to where our old spot was.  But we might not get it next month.

Stew is going to come out with me tomorrow, and Lacy is also going to join us, so Stew doesn't have to do as much.

Talking of Lacy, I'm going over to hers this morning to get me eyebrows dyed.  I gave her an eyebrow dye kit recently, and it seems to work just fine.  So, she's gunna do mine today.

If it looks OK, I shall stop getting mine done at the Base, at $50 a pop.

After that, I shall come home and work on the market prep, and then move on to the next cot quilt I've got on the table.  It's another cute one.

ABOVE: And the eye brows are done.  Lacy did a good job.  I'm never going to pay $50 to have them done again!  WHOOP WHOOP.

ABOVE: On my way home I stopped in at Spotlight to get some of this basting spray.  Hopefully it will hold the cot quilt fabrics and backing fabrics to the batting, thereby stopping the puckering.  I DO use pins as well, but they were not holding it enough.  Fingers crossed this works.

ABOVE: I also bought another cutting mat, so that my work table is covered completely.  I've been waiting months for Spotlight to get in the double sided cutting mats.  Yaaaa, finally have another one.

VICKI:  lol, yes I did know that... I have used it before, many years ago.

ABOVE:  A nice photo of Lacy, tending to her fish.  She's a bit precious when it comes to her fish!

ABOVE: Luckily it wasn't raining when I set up to do the spraying this afternoon.

It was an easy process.

But it didn't stop a little bit of puckering here and there on the front... not enough to be noticeable to anyone but a quilter though.

It certainly adds to the cost of a quilt, one can will be enough to do two cot quilts, and a can costs $25.

I think I might not be using it much!

I am now taking a break, before sorting out what runners to take tomorrow, and getting things ready to load into the car once Stew is home.

9.05 pm, and everything is ready for tomorrow's early start.

I'm hoping we don't get too much rain, as it is supposed to be a terribly wet day!  Derrr.

I sometimes wonder why we keep doing it, rain, hail and shine?

Probably because I want to sew, and don't need a gazillion table runners, bowl cosys, and so on.

One day we will give up markets, and I will just have to gift all of my shit away.

But not tomorrow.

ANOTHER BUS TRIP

 

I'm off on another bus trip today.

It's one being organised by our Village, and the aim is to help us get familiar with the bus routes we can catch easily from here.

Because, maybe at some point in our future, we won't be able to drive and will have to rely on buses.  

Forward thinking and all that.

There was also a bus trip planned by the FBG's for this morning, which I was hoping to join in on as well, but it's now been cancelled due to the the weather. (rain on and off)

I hope the Village trip isn't cancelled as well?  I suppose if it is, we will be told via a text this morning.

In the meantime, I will get into Crabby Quarters and work on the next cot quilt... and hopefully the fabric isn't shit, and sews up nicely.

ONWARD...

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I just finished another cot quilt, then thought, SHIT!  I really should have made it wider.  Grrrr.

So, it's a narrow cot quilt, or a wall hanging.

I put polar fleece on the back, first time I've done that.  

ABOVE:  It's colourful!  And with that, I'm done for now.

I need to have some lunch, then put me face on, in readiness for the bus trip.

Which I keep expecting to get cancelled.  We had a massive downpour just half an hour ago, and now?  It's back to friggin sunshine and roses.  😖😊

ABOVE: The bus trip went ahead, and it was very nice ... a tiki tour around our area for an hour or so.  I doubt I will ever get on that particular bus again though, it goes to places I would not necessarily want to go to.

But it was a nice outing, I got to chat with the 10 or so other people from our village.

AND... at one stop my granddaughter Emily hopped on the bus!  So I got to see her and have a catch up.  She got off at Chartwell Square, while we kept going until we got back to our Village bus stop.

It's Thursday, so once Stew gets home from work I will drop him off at the pub, visit the kids, then join Stew for a drink and hot chips.   Our 'normal' Thursday night then.

8.05 pm, just home from the pub.  I had a very pleasant hour with our friends at the pub, always nice to catch up with everyone.  An hour is just the right amount of time for me!

WHOOPS, I HAVE DOUBLE

 

I went through all the 'kiddy panels' I had squirreled away over the years yesterday.

I thought I had about 20.

Yeah, wrong.  I have at LEAST double that!

ABOVE:  I have chosen these six to work on over the next few weeks.  Most will become cot quilts.

ABOVE:  I started this one late yesterday... I have added borders to the actual panel, to make it cot sized.  It's going to be so lovely.  I can't wait to show you.

So, no guessing what I am doing today eh?

There's quite a few activities on in the Community Centre today, but NONE I want to join in.  I ain't into Tai Chi, Golf Croquet, Indoor Bowls or Singing, among other things.  I keep thinking I should try to join in on more things, but right now, I'm more interested in doing my sewing, and going to the odd morning tea.  And the Craft Group.

Maybe in a few more years I will be inclined to do more here.  Time will tell.

ONWARD...

11.30 am and I've not got much done so far today.

I went out and bought Coco a new winter coat, then adjusted it so it's a snugger fit.

I've had an early lunch.

And now I'm contemplating heading into Crabby Quarters to do some work.

We found out last night that our site at Tamahere is 'no more', as they have moved a footpath, and that means... we have to move.

That kept me awake half the night, worried about where we would end up.

I ended up sending an email to the organiser this morning, with a site map, highlighting ONE particular area I would NOT like to be in.

It is under very big trees, gets muddy in winter and it is just miserable being there, having been there a few years ago.

Hopefully she can find us a decent spot going forward.   Though, NOTHING is going to be as good as where we were.  I am really sad about that.

ABOVE:  1.40 pm, and I have just finished this gorgeous little girl cot quilt.

It could be a playmat as well of course, any cot quilt can become a playmat.

Now I'm taking a little break, before deciding which panel to do next.

It is a grey old day out there, one minute the sun is shining, and the next it's gone all dark, and is raining. Autumn eh?  There was a gust of wind while I was sewing, and a big swoop of dead leaves got blown into the garage through the dog door!  It was just a bit funny, Coco jumped out of her skin, as she was sitting down right beside me, near the door.

I completely wasted about two hours in Crabby Quarters this afternoon.

I started another cot quilt, but halfway through quilting it, I realised the fabric was utter shit, and it kept puckering something rotten.   No matter what I did, I was just not sewing up nicely.

So I threw it in the bin.  Such a waste, but there was no saving it.

I then started another one, and I'm hoping this one holds up better.

Some of those panels really are rubbish fabric, and such a waste of money.  😖😕

I made a really big batch of Spaghetti Bolognaise today, and put three containers of it in the freezer, and kept two out for our dinners.

So, something productive DID get done this afternoon.

It is now 8.15 pm, and we are chilling out in front of the telly, and will do that till bedtime no doubt.

THAT BIT THE DUST

 

I love Tupperware.

I've had lots of it in my kitchen/pantry for well... since I left home.  So 49 years.

Way back in the day, when my kids were little, I even sold Tupperware.  I love it that much.

So... reason for that back story?

I have this piece of Tupperware, it started life as something to store meat/chicken etc in, or something like that.

Over the years it became our dogs water dish, and it lived in the garage, or just outside the back door.  

It is around 45 years old.

Yesterday, I was cleaning it, and refilled it with fresh water for Coco, and as I lifted it up...

ABOVE: It FELL TO BITS in my hands.  I was gutted.  That is a relic from my past.   I felt a bit sad really.

And then I was like, well I got my moneys worth out of it eh?

So, now Coco has a new Tupperware water dish.

I am sure it will last just as long.  Maybe not Coco though. 😟😣

ABOVE: Coco's new water dish.  I like to have a large dish full of water for her, so she can reach it easily, even while wearing a friggin cone.  

ABOVE:  The printer lasted about 10 minutes on top of my dresser, then I realised it might get too hot there, and dry up the ink too fast.  So I re-arranged my computer corner in Crabby Corners, and that's where it is now.

Stew and I had a go at installing it, and connecting it to our computers to no avail last night.  Even with Steve on the phone trying to help, we had no luck.   So, Steve is coming over sometime today or this evening to have a go.  

WHY is technology so damn frustrating????   It said it was an 'Easy Setup'.  MY ARSE it is.

Today I am going to finish the Frog Cot Quilt, then move on to the Nautical one.    At least I can do that easily.  😊😏

ONWARD...

1.10 pm.  I've had a good morning, finished off the housework then went to morning tea at the Community Centre.  All the usual people there, it is interesting to see who turns up every time.  And who doesn't. 

I know I've met probably 1/3rd of the residents here, the social ones.  There's heaps that simply do not interact or engage in village activities.

Their prerogative of course.  I know I'd rather get to know as many people as possible, half the reason for coming here was for the company a village like this provides.

Anyway... after morning tea I came back home and did this:

ABOVE: So, one cot quilt down, a few more to go.

Next will be the Nautical one.

But right now, I'm taking a break for lunch.

ABOVE: Well scrap the cot quilt idea for this one, it was just the wrong size, too long and narrow.  So, it's a wall hanging now.  I like it.  It works.  

Now... I'm going to go and look at all the other cot quilt/kiddy panels I have and decide what to do next.

4.30 pm, and Steve called in and sorted out our printer issues.  I can now print out pictures:

ABOVE: I was really pleased that I could print out all my bag pictures.  Now I can keep count on stock, what is selling and so on.

I used to do that with my runners as well, but stopped a good year ago, when our printed died.

I don't think I can be arsed printing out all the runners I've made since then!

6.50 pm, and it's that time of the day... time to  hunker down and do bugger all.  Watch TV. Scroll shit on my laptop.
