UP.... OR DOWN?

For the last 20 odd years, I've worn my hair up in a bun.

Why?  Convenience, quick and easy style, no fussing, keeps off me face, bla bla bla.

But lately, when I have had it out, or just in a pony tail, I've felt like it softens my face?

What do you think?

ABOVE:  I don't want to come across as someone trying to look younger than she is.  I'm almost 65 after all!

Mutton dressed as Lamb?

I'd hate that comparison to be thrown at me for sure.

But in saying that, I will never cut my hair short.  It's just not 'me'.

If I lose me marbles, then OK, it could be cut short I suppose.  I'm not gunna know eh?  😂😅😊

So for the next few days at least, I'm going to try and keep it untied, and see how we go.

It's a long weekend here.

'Kings Birthday'.  Monday is a holiday.

Stew is going to be working in the gardens and maybe even water blasting the back path today.

Then tomorrow he's doing a 'dump run' with Steve.  Between the two households we have a good load of rubbish to get rid of.

While he is doing that, I will work on the fish cushions, now that I don't have anything else to distract me, like those sweatshirts yesterday.  lol

10.30 am:  Stew and I stayed in bed till 9!  Bliss.
Then up and at it.
I went out to Grandmother's Garden in Gordonton for more Steam a Seam (essential with applique work), then into the supermarket to find our favourite wraps.  REBEL  Low Carb Everything Wraps.  They are sooooooo good.

Home now and Stew's just taken off to the supermarket for his regular Saturday morning shop.
And I'm now in the sewing room.

ABOVE:  Today's progress on these two fish cushion covers.
I can't believe it's taken so long just to get to this stage.
I'm stopping for the day now.  My back is killing me.

I will make the fish come to life tomorrow...  (figuratively).

ABOVE:  I just did the 'girly thing', and put some curls in me hair.
My hair is a bit curly/kinky when semi dry.  When I brush it, it just goes fairly straight though.  It's nice this length I feel.  No shorter.  I'd hate that.
Sorry Marie!  And I'm short too... double Ikkkk for you.

Now that I'm back in the house, my biggest job is deciding what to put on our wraps this evening?  Beef/Chicken or Pork.  Oh the decisions.

It's gunna be... fish!  😂😅😂

Our dinner was lovely, VERY filling.  Should be all good now till tomorrow.  Except for a hot drink before bed.

It got very cold when the sun went down... so as per usual for winter, feet up, blankie on, hot water bottles and watching TV till bedtime.
Catch ya tomorrow.

  1. I like it up... maybe a pony. But down yeah i think it softens. Isn't it funny how long hair is almost frowned upon in older women. I think hair length around armpit height looks best. Doesn't drag you down like longer hair but still long enough to be put up.

That is my own criteria, just long enough to pull it up, no longer.

I would try a head band, pulling just the top part back, braiding, etc.

I always think you look so much softer and lovely with your hair down. I totally get putting it up to keep it out of the way but I think it is so much more flattering when you wear it down. Maybe try headbands (soft ones, stretchy ones, not hard ones), braids? To keep it out of your face?

  4. Your hair looks good either way. And ... ummm ... There is no age limit on wearing your hair down! Silly Goose! Truthfully, I like it down, the color looks good too. And where did you get the waves? Isn't your hair usually straight? I like this length and color. It looks nice and healthy.

    1. One of my besties is retired and has hair longer than yours and is almost all GRAY (naturally) and she wears it down 100% of the time. I made her a leather barrette - but she only wears it while cooking. That's the only time she puts her hair up. Look at that picture. It looks great down. Didn't someone recently cut it "too short", I think the slightly shorter length might make it more "wearable" down.

    2. I agree that the 'new' length makes it easier to wear down. I'm in my sewing room and have had to tie it back so I can work without it in me face. But I'm going to keep wearing it down for a while.

    3. I would send YOU a leather barrette too, if it didn't cost 10X the value of the barrette for the shipping to NZ.

    4. Thanks for the thought. I too know how expensive the postage is! Terrible.

  5. Definitely down but perhaps you could pull just some back or try different 'down' styles. I bet there are hundreds out there you could search up.

Morning 🌄 I'm currently attempting to grow mine after nearly a year it's almost to my shoulders. I got a perm for a change because my hair is dead straight ☹️ it's dropped out heaps after 3 months so have decided to get a spiral perm in a couple of weeks because I like the curls. It's your hair you wear it however you like GM 💙💙

I am very much a person who doesn’t like long hair on women over 40. I think a layered bob shoulder length looks great but I see lots of women who look like cocker spaniels with long hair, especially short women. This is coming from someone who gets a cut every four weeks and whose hair is about two inches in length. My hair is quite fine and looks stupid longer. (And my filter is lacking.....). You have such beautiful hair Chris - colour and thickness and that's despite what the stupid salon colourist did (eye rolls her idea of blonde). I have been embracing your efficient bun during my house painting because I ended up with paint in my pony tail - how well you should see my painting pants - I could sell them as artwork. But I find that my hair hurts if I wear it up tightly in a bun - like as if a bully has yanked it - so I have to rotate it around. But sorry - back to you - I understand sewing would be not ideal having your hair flapping about. I think because you have above average hair- when we see it out - it really makes an impact - if we all have average hair - mines dark and frizzy just a touch shorter than yours. And you look young for your age so I think longer hair on you is fine- maybe don't get false eyelashes- just joking. Like you said the other day - its been 13 years since you have been this weight - so I guess you are trialling and rediscovering what now works for you, hair and clothes and boots to embrace where your at now and to celebrate your success because it is a big achievement. I have only lost 4 kilos and I certainly identify with all your down days and when you feel frustrated about not moving forward - I hear you and I think that's why so many people come to your blog because they see themselves in your struggle and really are excited when you have been successful - as well as seeing your crafty creations. Thanks from me anyway Maria(Australia)

My opinion is that wearing it down softens your face and I think makes you look younger. I fully understand wearing it in a bun, or ponytail, especially while sewing. I wear a headband most days, or did, recently I've had my hair cut into a layered bob and I am wearing it more freely, as opposed to hair clips and hairbands because I felt pulling it back was aging me and making my hair fallout from being pulled on all of the time. So I know where you are coming from. Enjoy the long weekend. They are always so appreciated. Ky Girl

    1. Thanks. It's how I used to wear it ALL THE TIME in my 20's to 40's. Most of my girls HATE it like that. Sad.

Love your hair down and wavy, it looks very nice and not at all "too young". I would also like to compliment you on your amazing talent with your sewing. You have a wonderful sense of fantasy. Have a good weekend. Hugs from Italy ~ Rosemarie

  17. I would kill to have your hair! Mine is baby fine and doesn’t grow well. If I had long hair, I’d never wear it up! Looks lovely with the waves x
