NUMBERS.... AND DENIM IS A WORRY

Now that I have my blood sugar level under control....  let's talk NUMBERS.

Three and a half months ago I was XXX in weight.  Yep... well over the 100 kgs.  I felt disgusted with myself... yet again.

I never ever wanted to be that high again, particularly after working so hard years ago to lose SIXTY ONE KILOS (134.2 pounds),  then going through a massive operation to get a full circumferential tummy tuck and so on.

But... I did gain a shit load of that weight back.

NOW though, I finally feel like I AM going to lose most of it again.

But it's hard.  So much harder this time.  I'm older.  I'm wiser, so I know it's NOT going to be easy to lose, and keep it OFF.

Lately, my numbers have been 'STICKING'... like for 2-3 weeks I will hardly lose a pound... and it's so hard not to get discouraged.

I know I'm still eating too much.  OK... it's not carbs and sugar that's the problem now.  It's portion size.

So, that's my focus for now.  Cutting down.

The number on the scale for the past 3 weeks has been almost the same, just a tiny loss each week, but basically staying in the same kilo bracket.

It's been doing my f*#king head in!  Then two days ago... boom!  Broke through that number and went down 2 KILOS!  OMG.  So happy.  It's a number I've not seen in over 5 years.

So... maybe I will have losses like that for a while?  Slow... slow...slow... then a good drop?

I have mini goals.  Next goal is to weigh LESS than our son Steve.  He's XXX and I'm only 5 kilos away from him!

Next goal is to be under XXX and into XX only.

That goal is hopefully going to be reached in just a couple more months if I can get the portions under control!

I don't snack.  I only have BRUNCH and DINNER.  And diet coke, supplemented with a hot chocolate sometimes, like with the girls after an FBG walk.  So, learning what to eat that's healthy, has no carbs or sugar and will satisfy my hunger (and head) is still a massive learning curve.

Cheese is my downfall I think.  Because it's tasty, and I love it, I'm over eating it.  Can anyone think of something else that is really tasty, but not so damn fattening???

My mind is blank... I look in my pantry and freezer and just go BLAH.

I'M NOT ENJOYING FOOD AT ALL.  IT ISN'T INTERESTING OR TEMPTING OR ANYTHING.  JUST BLAH.

ABOVE:  I've been blogging for 12 years, and this is the second time I've used this baby photo... I bet that kid is in his/her 20's by now!
But, it so sums up how I'm feeling.  BLAH.

MOVING... ON...

Ever since Denim came back from the groomers, she's been acting weird.
Crying.  Trying to reach her tail.

Or so I thought.  I thought maybe her tail had been messed with during her groom and it was hurting her?

But no.  She's FINALLY coming into season, and because she's in a cone, she can't 'INVESTIGATE' what's going on down there.  So she's been crying and bitching.

I checked her out thoroughly yesterday afternoon after she wouldn't stop crying, and sure enough.... everything is enlarged.  So, she is FINALLY having her first real season.  Damn late!

Marley on the other hand is nowhere near that stage yet!   I wonder when that will happen for her?

I didn't put the top coat on the drawers last night as my knee was just too sore, so all going well I will get that done today. So exciting... I love this paint effect so much!
And the drawers are going to look awesome, I just know it.

ONWARD...

1.25 pm:  Just got home from doing the grocery shopping.
I got half the painting done this morning first thing, will try and get the rest done later on today.

I'm now going to take a break and have some lunch... no idea what to have. Probably some chicken ... god I'm sick of chicken!
And coleslaw.
And chicken.
And salads.
And chicken.
*sigh*

Maybe I will have some Burgen toast (1 piece) with vegemite and cheese?

I ended up making an 'in a cup' scone/bun/muffin type thingee.

Combine in a coffee cup:

4 TBsp Almond Meal
1TBsp Olive Oil
Pinch of salt
I Egg
1/4 tsp baking powder

Stir it all up, zap in microwave for approx 60 seconds.
I defrosted 5 mixed berries and added them too.

Once cooked, I drizzled Sugar Free Maple Syrup over it.  YUM!

So that was lunch.   Dinner is going to be something done with beef mince and some bacon.

For some reason the paint effect isn't working on the drawers like it should.  I might be doing some sanding back by the look of it.  NOT HAPPY.

So limited success with the drawers... so far only one side is a disaster.  The top is OK.  I shall be doing the 2nd side tomorrow... then decide if I can be bothered sanding back the bad side and doing it again.   Maybe I will just wait a while till I can be arsed!

Coro is on... time to sign off for the day.

  1. A great boost to be 2kgs down. You are doing amazing. As for snacks you could maybe try some almonds, or a yoghurt or the girls at work often have celery sticks with peanut butter.

Hi the dietitian made a sample day for me...Meal 1. Porride
2 cottage cheese, apple, rye cruskits
    3 Tuna and beans
    4 vegie sticks and hummus
    5 Dinner small prtion
    6 Nuts and dried fruit

You could make your own little plan with your suitable foods....also you probably, should be having around 1500 calories a day...you can find a site online to work out your metabolic rate for a more exact number of calories per day. I don't count calories now, but you need to do so for about a week to get the right portion sizes etc.

Google 'fat whoosh'...it will explain losing nothing then a big drop

  4. Keep up the good work, don't be discouraged. One thing the dietician would say though, is that although it has no sugar, Diet Coke has the same chemical reaction with the body as sugar does, so (dare I say it??) cutting back on that will help. BUT, we all know the likelihood of that happening, am I right? hahaha!

Stick with it, it'll happen because you're in the right head space xx

    1. IN fact, I have cut back on DC... I'm not as thirsty as I used to be now that the blood sugar levels are 'normal'! Which is awesome.

    2. That's great !! I didn't read this before I commented below but my comment still stands - you need some vice after how good you have been.

  5. Probably if you threw a snack in there it would help.

I also like diet coke, I lost 14 kilos in 4 months drinking a heap of it...along with a healthy diet, as I am not diabetic I also ate carbs and a "treat" each day Diet drinks are not the problem for losing weight, but they do have chemicals etc...but so does plenty of other foods, better than sugary drinks and sugar laden foods, fruit juice and alcohol cigarettes etc If they had the same chemical reaction as sugar then Chris would have massive sugar spikes in her blood tests and she doesn't.. she has also had a substantial weight loss and will continue with that as the visceral insulin resistant fat reduces. Everything in moderation is good, but hard..lol

    1. Totally agree on the diet coke... it never spiked my sugar levels at all. I think.... I will keep drinking it!

    2. I wasn't meaning regards to sugar levels, for chemical reactions, so I wasn't expecting it to spike sugar levels. just saying my dietician said I wasn't to drink it while I was undergoing the first part of my post surgery diet because it triggered the same responses as sugary drinks when "dieting", so to avoid it or drink it in small doses. Nothing to do with sugar levels. That's all.

    3. Righty ho then... *smiles* All I know is it's the only thing I can drink that I actually like. I am sure because it tastes sweet, it does make your body think its having sugar? And makes you hungry? I dunno... it's all gobbily gook to me now. So much info goes in, gets scrambled up then lost!

    4. Diet drinks spike an insulin response (not a sugar response so won't show up on your blood test). Insulin is the hunger hormone so higher insulin = more hunger. BUT I know you love the stuff so just keep on with it because you've made other great changes. We can only do so much :) . Pick your battles and carbs and sugar is a great start.

I know this feeling, I am also in the 100s and I hate it! But on my way to double figures too. I want to be lighter than my Dad who is 6 foot 5, but will see what happens.

In terms of snacks, I don't have a lot of ideas, other than don't be scared of protein. I am aiming for 115 grams of protein a day, 110g of fat and 25 of carbs. I am not telling you to count anything, but just saying it takes a while to reeducate ourselves about how we see food. Like you, I have been a bit scared to eat too much cheese because I love it, and of course you can go overboard. But if you are hungry, protein is your friend as it is satiating, followed by some fat and then of course limited carbs.

For that reason, my suggestions are nuts, full fat non-sweetened yoghurt (like Greek yoghurt if you like it), smaller amounts of cheese, eggs, but these have been suggested so I'll keep thinking! Good luck, you are doing great things for yourself xxx

    1. FAT... like all I can think of when someone says eat FAT is butter and oil and fat off meat! I ain't eating much fat! Greek yoghurt is revolting! I've tried sweetening it... it still sucks. Might give it a miss.

Do you like avocado? Or haloumi cheese? I don't think you need to drown in butter. I love Greek yoghurt but it's not for everyone :-)

    3. NO I dislike Avocado ... I can tolerate a tiny bit in a sandwich or salad though. Haloumi cheese makes me want to hurl! And I love cheese!

What I am really saying is don't be scared of fat like we used to be. It's not actually the demon they make it out to be in the effort to get us eating carbs and sugar. Cream and berries works if you like it? I found that hard to get t my head around, but it is very satisfying and you don't need much!

    5. I'm with you on the avo but I love haloumi!

  8. Seeing as you’re having beef mince, maybe try ‘Keto Hamburgers with Creamy Tomato gravy’. I make this regularly - it’s a Diet Doctor recipe and it’s really good!

    Hamburger patties
    700 g ground beef
    1 egg
    90 g crumbled feta cheese
    1 tsp salt
    ¼ tsp ground black pepper
50 g fresh parsley, finely chopped
1 tbsp olive oil, for frying
    30 g butter, for frying
    Gravy
    175 ml heavy whipping cream
30 g fresh parsley, coarsely chopped
2 tbsp tomato paste or ajvar relish
    salt and pepper
    Fried green cabbage
    700 g shredded green cabbage
    120 g butter
    salt and pepper.

Add all ingredients for the hamburgers to a large bowl. Blend it using a wooden spoon or your clean hands. Don't over mix since that can make your patties tough. Use wet hands to form eight oblong patties.
Add butter and olive oil to a large frying pan. Fry over medium-high heat for at least 10 minutes or until the patties have turned a nice color. Flip them a few times for even cooking.
Add tomato paste and whipping cream to the pan when the patties are almost done. Stir and let simmer for a few minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.
Sprinkle chopped parsley on top before serving.

    1. Sounds great! Pity I've already got dinner cooking... a spag bol type mince/bacon and tomatoe which we will have over some burgen toast. The kids can have some pasta if they want it. Sprinkle of cheese on the top. Should be good.

  12. I was wondering if you made the hat that the baby is wearing in the 'blah' picture.
My friend told me that chicken breast, black beans, and spinach is a very filling meal. He lost so much weight he looks like an AIDS poster child.
    Have a great weekend.
