Last phase of our home renovations start today, and should end today too.
I've been assured that the carpet installers will be in and out in one day.
So, fingers crossed that happens.
Stew and I are getting up nice and early as we have to get our bed into the sunroom before the carpet guys arrive.
They are due around 8.30 - 9 am.
I imagine they will have the old carpet ripped up and out of here in less than an hour! It only took Lacy and I five minutes to do the lounge yesterday.
They will be taking our old carpet away, then returning with the new carpet.
I suppose there won't be much Stew and I can do except watch them! And twiddle our thumbs until we can start putting stuff back in the house.
Well we both had a dreadful night's sleep. Tossing and turning, worried about sleeping in!
So we got up early and put the bed etc out and then sat and waited.
ABOVE: Bex and the boys arrived bright and early and took the girls home so they are not locked in the garage all day.
ABOVE: We had breakfast on the floor, which was fine. Kinda like moving in day.
ABOVE: And Mike and his guys arrived bang on time and were straight into it.
We have encountered a couple of little hick ups, but Mike is on to it. That remaining vinyl should have been lifted with the rest of the vinyl.
And where I took up the tiles by the sliding door?
The glue stuff needs to be ground back... something we were not told either.
So the Carpet Install Lady (J) is sorting that out as we speak.
Tick tock....
OMG... Bryan from Carpet Court is coming around to see what the problem is with where the tiles were, and the remaining vinyl. WOW.
So, Bryan arrived, walked around scratching his head, then said he would get Jamieson back to fix the problems.
And off he went. I was just impressed he came over!
ABOVE: Our hands are tied in relation to doing anything right now... so I started another Cat Runner. And Stew is on me couch in the sewing room reading a magazine.
The carpet guys left with all our old carpet and underlay, and now they are back putting it down.
I want to go and look, but I also don't want to.
I wanna see it when it's finished, not half done.
Decisions, decisions...
ABOVE: I had a peek. And they have almost finished putting the underfelt down. Isn't it lovely and BLUE!
ABOVE: Jamieson arrived and it only took 10 minutes to grind the tile glue off the concrete.
And... now the guys have gone off for lunch.
FUCK IT ALL!
You are not going to believe this!
I just got a phone call from the Carpet Install Lady, (J). And she informed us that one piece of the carpet has not been cut correctly off-site, and so our job will not be completed until next week.
They have to get the LAST PIECE of our carpet (in the entire country), down here from Auckland, so it can be laid next week.
Which MEANS, our Family Room (the biggest room in the house) cannot have any furniture put back into it until next fucking week.
And according to the carpet layer guy, he's not going to lay the carpet in our lounge either, cos it has to be laid AFTER the family room carpet, cos it has to 'line up'.
So we can't put the lounge furniture back either.
I'm like.... WHAT THE FUCK else can go wrong???
Mike the carpet guy whose laying our carpet assures me he will get the bedrooms done today.
'J' told me last week that a BIG TEAM would be doing our home, and would be in and out in no time at all.
WRONG. There's Mike and his two teenage sons, who are his 'fetch and carry' helpers. So, one man is doing our job. ONE.
Yet another thing they got wrong.
So... I've now heard from Bryan too.
He's SO SORRY this has happened.
Our carpet has been ordered and should be here 'sometime' next week. As soon as it gets here it will be installed as a priority.
Again, he's SO SORRY.
Because we will have underlay exposed, we can't have the dogs on it, in case their paws/nails damage it.
So for the next few days, maybe as long as a week, the dogs have to live in the damn garage!
Again, Bryan is SO SORRY about that, but there is nothing he can do about it.
edit: Stew thinks we should put the big piece of our old carpet that we kept, in the dining room area to cover the underfelt. So, that's what we will no doubt do, so the dogs are not locked out of the house. At least that is one thing we can do to mitigate the goddam annoyance of it all.
The other thing I can do personally:
ABOVE: Stew thinks THIS is a good idea, cos he can see how stressed and upset I am. What was supposed to be an AWESOME day, is not.
We CAN put all the bedroom furniture back ... one blessing. We are doing that very soon.
OH while we were twiddling our thumbs today, I did another Cat Runner!
Yep. And it's finished.
AND I will show it to you tomorrow. It's really cute. But of course, I say that about all of them eh? 😅😂😥
I actually feel like crying. Better have a swig of me 'Diet Coke PLUS'.
5.45 pm: OMG I'm pissed as a chook.
Lioek, totally possedd, can't typ3. Can;t spell.
whoops.
Better sign off. See yas tomorow.
Oh yeah, having takeaways.
Should drink more. woudl wmake life easier yeah?
Be sure to post as soon as they arrive - just so we know they DID arrive.
ReplyDeleteHappy "Carpet" Day. Hoping it all goes well for you and looking forward to the pic's.
ReplyDeleteYay!! Today's the day! Happy for you. Hope you will do a walk through of your finished home when you can.
ReplyDeleteAt least you can go shopping while the carpet is being laid (from a jealous person who has not been able to shop for 12 weeks). New carpet is so exciting!!
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you Chris and Stew, why does there always have to be a qlitch.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat shade of blue and it looks so soft. Watching the blog with excitement. Congratulations you'll now have it finished- well most of it. Kj
ReplyDeleteLol oh my.....of course the underlay would be blunken blue lol 😆 💙 😂
ReplyDelete#Lacy 💙
Haha blue that’s definitely blue alright wow they will be done in a day for sure how cool, Carpet Court should be offering a slight refund or apology goodwill gift basket.
ReplyDeleteCan’t wait for the end..
Eeek thats so exciting 🙂🤞🏻
ReplyDeleteHoly snapping duck shit WTF is up with this bird at Carpet Court??? Surely she would have known before today 🤬🤬 💙💙
ReplyDeleteOMG right a sizeable discount AND big big basket
ReplyDeleteWhat a pain in the ARSE!
Surely the freight potentially said 7 rolls carpet 7 rooms as an example TELL THEM come hell or high water you don’t care how it happens CARPET tomorrow or come and take it all back 🤦♀️
ReplyDeleteBreathe breath breathe
I can't believe how unlucky you have been with Carpet Court - we were just so lucky with Harrisons - nothing went wrong at all. If I were you I would put the furniture back in both rooms and get them to move it next week (free of charge) or perhaps you can't do that with the underlay in there - I would certainly be looking for a discount on the cost. I assume they will finish the bedrooms today? Audrey
ReplyDeleteOh my giddy aunt what a cluster fuck.
ReplyDeleteClusterfuck is the best way to describe this!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOhhh fuck...really!!
ReplyDeleteSo not professional and or fair. Big thumbs down 👎
OH FOR FAKES SAKE!! I'd be pissed off! Incompetent fuckers!!
ReplyDeleteThat was me, Sharnee, Melb, Aus
ReplyDeleteOh man 😒 but shot dad for the diet coke plus idea 💡 just make sure she doesn't get sick and chuck up on the pretty blue underlay xx
ReplyDelete#Lacy💙
Or worse the new bedroom carpet! 🤦♀️
DeleteOr worse Lacy, on the new bedroom carpet! 🤦♀️
DeleteThis is completely ridiculous. Email Carpet Court head office as soon as possible. As others have said, you deserve a big discount. So sorry this has been such an ordeal for you.
ReplyDeleteA Fan in Canada
So sorry this has happened! You were so excited about your new carpet. Unfortunately I’m not shocked considering how the whole carpet saga has played out.
ReplyDeleteOMG WTF. I would definitely be bawling my eyes out. 😒. Hopeyou get decent compensation for their incompetence. Enjoy you tipple.
ReplyDeleteOh arse
ReplyDeleteWhat a clusterfuck!!!! What else could possibly go wrong.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your drink and dinner, bugger all you can do about the carpet situation now.
Enjoy your nite mum x
ReplyDeleteDefinitely ask for a discount after all THEIR fuck ups instead of their piss weak apologies!!
ReplyDeleteWhere on earth are you and Stew sleeping GO BOOK INTO A MOTEL AND bill carpet court 👍
ReplyDeleteOur bedroom is done, so we can sleep in there tonight. All the bedrooms are done, just not the living areas.
DeleteCrap these carpet company sure isnt gonna get no good review from team Harvey that for sure sorry its all turned pear shape.
ReplyDeleteOh I would soooo be spitting tacks too. Definitely be hitting them up for a min $1000 discount for the sheer inconvenience.
ReplyDeleteOh AND MAKE THEM move all the BLARDY furniture back AND put the doors back the longer the night goes on the madder IM getting at them lol.
ReplyDeleteOh Chris, I feel so bad for you. What a mess that place have made of this project.
ReplyDeleteI hope the carpet is the same shade as the one they already have!!! As a sewer Chris you know how shades vary from roll to roll. They need to give you a blooming good amount for not being able to live properly. Who can do without somewhere to sit comfortably for that length of time?
ReplyDeleteJesus that's a bit of a f&ck up. I'd be pissed too!
ReplyDeleteI still think with the dogs, volume of traffic/company, that hard floors/vinyl at least in all your public areas would be best. Personally, I would have put hard/vinyl in the bedrooms too - whole house.
ReplyDeleteSo every time there has been a problem, I think - it is opportunity speaking - there is still time to switch!
Oh No Oh NO! I must have missed all the drama yesterday. Where the heck was I??? Oh man. You prepared so damn well for this and now you have to live in chaos for a week or more? Holy cow! So.... is it standard procedure to NOT CHECK the carpet before installation day? Maybe. I have no idea! Do you like the carpet that has already been laid? The carpet? the color? the installation?
ReplyDeleteI must say your typing after the modified Diet Coke had me giggling! You may need a few more of those this week.
