Late yesterday afternoon we had a plumber turn up to check out our 'job' ... replacing the two toilets in the house.
And to my shock... it is NOT going to cost an arm and a leg and half me left tit too!
I am dumbfounded. If I'd know just how much it would cost (under $1,500), I would have done it a year ago! Seriously, I'm rather happy for once with a quote!
So, all going well... once they can fit us in, we will get them done. I can't wait. No more having to clean the loos literally after every use.
Today I'm off into Hamilton for Weigh in at Weight Watchers, then I am meeting up with the Sue's for lunch at the Hamilton Gardens Cafe.
It's lovely there, so pretty, and the food is darn good too.
I haven't seen the girls for a while, so it will be lovely to catch up with them both.
And that is about all I have for now... and I've no walk booked today.
ONWARD...
3.50 pm: Long day.
Weight watchers weigh in: I lost .400 grams. Happy with that. Thought I would have had a small gain... haven't been that good this week.
After that I met up with Sue #1, Sue #2 couldn't make it after all.
We had a lovely lunch, and then we were joined by my Uncle Frank and Aunt Nolene from Tauranga.
They were in Hamilton getting tractor parts, and had planned on visiting me at my home, but when they heard I was at the Hamilton Gardens, they met me there.
We all had a lovely visit, did some catching up and then we all left for our various homes.
I got back to Cambridge with plenty of time to pick up the kids from school.
Now it's chill out time till I have to get dinner.
We are surrounded by thunder and lightening right now... LOVE IT!
I've already booked myself onto 3 and there's a possible 4th I could go on to.
Happy happy.
I was wondering why you thought it would be so dear. The plumbing is already there, it's just changing out the toilet, right? You're not moving the toilets to another part of the bathroom. Glad you got a great quote :)
ReplyDeleteI always think things are going to be twice what I expect! From experience it usually is sadly.
DeleteSorry to burst your bubble Chris check with the plumber if u needs a permit to replace the toilets. A friend here just got stuck with a bill from council for over a grand for consent to install even though it was in same place as old toilet no same plumbing wtc
ReplyDeleteThe plumber said nothing about that at all, so I presume it's not required here.
DeleteLove thunder storms
ReplyDeleteMy two cents regarding the loo's. I replaced many toilets over the years and never heard of a council asking for fee's to change like for like. Hamilton never did when I replaced the loo at my rental in 2015, Auckland didn't when I replaced two at my house there in 2007 and Tauranga hasn't when I replace two this year due to bathroom renos'. BUT, I'm surprised at the quote (unless it includes the cost of two toilets too). For a plumber to install a new loo has always been around the $180 - $220 mark ( per toilet) but I have always taken the old ones out myself. Not difficult. Just turn the water off (lots of toilets have their own little tap around the back). Unscrew it from the floor, and detach it from the wall (flush the cistern first of course to empty it and the pipes), and it should take less then 45min to get it out. I don't know how much this saved, but when I redid my ensuite loo and downstairs guest toilet, the total for the plumber was $446 including GST. ( and I supplied the toilets)
ReplyDeleteThe quote is for two new toilets and installation... I am going for toilets that cost around $500 each. But the quote could be for less yet, I have to wait and see what reduction they can get off the toilets for 'trade'
DeleteI've been reliably informed that replacing an existing toilet within the same room is 'Exempt Works under Schedule 1 of the Building Act 2004' and so no Building Consent is required! apparently you may be able to Google this online. Love following your blog :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Fifi.
DeleteI am incredibly curious about the designs of the disliked toilets versus the new ones. Post pictures. What is it about the cuteness ones that you don't like and makes it need more cleaning?
ReplyDeleteRight, tomorrow I will post photos of our toilets. You see if you can figure out what's 'wrong' with them!
DeleteHaha, Chris' blog tackling the big issues!!! Yet weirdly I am going to be checking out the loo photos tomorrow lol.
DeleteGorgeous pic of you & Sue!
ReplyDeleteI love your blue top Chris, can u pls share where you got it from? Sharnee, Melbourne
Got the top and another one the same, in different colour, from K&K
DeleteHappy first day of spring your way too! Dante looks so cute. I'm sure he'll be a heartbreaker when he matures. :D It's been relatively quiet here today but Niece has been very excited about going to the disco. I've had to try and calm her down several times before she got herself worked into a lather. And then it turned out to be cancelled as the lass taking her didn't turn up. Not a happy camper but took it way better than I thought she would. Yes, it's a nightmare. How do you treat an adult who insists they're an adult, has all the adult wants, but the emotional maturity of a 4 yo, and the cognitive ability of a 6 yo? And those estimates are being generous.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to to be TOTALLY un-politically correct here and say: The fact that you haven't throttled her yet shows you are doing something right girl!!! I know she's a real trial for you all... but you are wonderful for taking care of her. YOU ROCK.
DeleteCongrats on another weight loss! Love the picture of my two NZ blogger 'friends'!
ReplyDeleteYeah more walking for you!
