MAD ABOUT COASTERS....OR MUG RUGS!

Today I am going to be making more of these:

I just love them!  They are (in my humble opinion) so much better than wooden/ceramic/glass coasters!!!!  The 'other' types of coasters end up with pools of water on them from your cold glass's condensation.... the fabric ones can absorb the moisture and then be washed later... and if you spill a bit of ya coffee or tea on the coaster you can just wash it too!   No more mess.... yaaaa.

I am going to have so much fun thinking up new ways to make them...using different patterns, fabrics etc.

If there is one thing I do love, it's coming up with different ideas for creating 'stuff'... I love being creative... OBVIOUSLY eh?  lol
AND they are going to be so easy to post as gifts... they will fit in an envelope!  AWESOME.

ONWARD...

Well...I haven't made any more yet... I've been out and about checking out present possibilities for the kids.  With limited funds it is going to be 'interesting' to say the least.  Brylee is so easy to buy for... whereas Griffin is the pitts.  He loves Playstation and anything with wheels... but just how many toy cars and playstation games does one kid need?

So, home again and just relaxing for while before sewing again.

Oh and I need to clean up a whole bunch of bird feathers.... a  bird flew inside and the dogs got it... I saved it from certain death, but not before it lost a lot of feathers!  The dogs were having a ball with it!  Ikkkk.

ABOVE:  I started this set of 4 late this afternoon... hoping to finish them by bedtime, which is totally do-able.
Got to feed the kids dinner now... Stew won't be home for dinner tonight, so we will have something quick I reckon...

End of Day: the kids and I had yummy toasted sandwiches for dinner!  And I finished those 4 placemats too.  Time to end the day, nite nite.

I remember having those years ago!! Although they were ribbed and had cloves and stuff inside them so when you put the cup on, the warmth makes the smellies start to waft out - very nice... but then you can't wash them I suppose....

Oh to have some TIME to be creative... I am bursting with creativity and alas, no time to do it... until NEXT year... yay!

Back into it for me... working right up to blimmin Christmas Eve! Grrrrrrrr...... never mind though - pays the bills!

Catch ya - have a good day!

  5. Hey! Neat! So, are you going to sell these? If so, lemme know, I'll get my mum a set for her birthday next March :-)

Also, just wanted to let you know I do read your blog every day, although I don't always comment. I didn't get the chance to read it for most of this week though, but if you read my blog on the weekend you'll know why.

Sorry about the market thing. Keep trying though, cause it's sure to pick up now summer is on it's way.

  10. Are you going to go to the Pokeno Market on Sunday?

I reckon those coasters (sorry mug rugs sound silly) would be a hit, a really good present for people to get.

I wish I was crafty & creative but I do not have a creative bone in my body - the best I have done in the last 2 years is a wire bug and that is because I was made to participate - I think I proved my point when I said I don't have a creative bone in my body.

Not sure what to suggest for Griffin for Christmas. One thing I did get for my son at about that age is an electronic set, they are called Brainboox, they have pieces that clip together and come in a range of sizes & prices, they can make everything from cars, radios, boats alarms. They have booklets that show you how to put everything together. Samyson at 13 still plays with his and the kid down the road who has ADHD loves playing with them as well.

The first Christmas we got Sam one he played with it for hours.

I like the square ones much better...the other ones look odd and I tend to agree with Jaxx I couldn't be bothered washing them :O) I'm lazy and I don't see anyone using them these days anyway except at the pub :O)

  14. I love your coasters!! I remember the ones Anon is talking about too. I can remember they also had ones as big as a placemat...and they had cloves and other herbs...some had lavender in them...and when you sat the hot dish on them the smell came out more. You could probably do some matching ones for the plates?

  15. I totally agree with you, I don't like the coasters where your glass sits in a puddle of water. I always use a folded up cloth napkin. I have a couple around the house, where I put my mug when I'm walking around drinking coffee.

  16. Isn't it wonderful when you don't have to fuss too much over a meal! Good luck getting your Christmas shopping figured out. I've been keep asking my boy what he wants for months now and he keeps saying he'll get back to me! Grrrrr.

  18. Ooh the coasters are great Chris! I really like the decorative stitching too. Some of the gifts I "got" family this year are handmade too. Fleece scarves and a cute apron for my cousin.
