MUM'S FUNERAL IS TODAY

TODAY WE SAY GOODBYE TO MUM.

First up this morning Ron and I will head out and gather up all the food and so on that I've ordered, and take it around to Ron's Daughter's home.

We are having the 'refreshments' after the funeral there.

Then we will come back home and take a breather, before getting ready to attend the funeral.

I am DREADING today.  I try to avoid funerals like the plague. (Or Covid-19 now days. 😏)

But... I can't get out of it... so there will be lots of deep breaths, and lots of tears no doubt.

Shame you can't hit 'FAST FORWARD' on days like this.

ONWARD...

6.37 pm:  And we are finally home.

It's been a very busy day.

But everything has gone like clockwork.

Ron and I gathered up all the food and drink and took it to Diane's.

Then home to prepare for the funeral.

THE FUNERAL:  Went exactly as I hoped.

And I did NOT lose my shit.  Sure, I cried a bit, but NOT over the top, lose my shit sort of crying.

So relieved I held it together for the most part.

After the 'refreshments', Richard, Maxine and I went down to the beach, where I FINALLY got to stand on the beach and dip me toes in the water.

ABOVE:  See?  Toes in the sand.

I will show you a couple more... 'toes in water'... tomorrow.  And I'm smiling!

But right now ...  I have laid my Mum to rest, and can relax and start living my 'NEW NORMAL'.

  4. A difficult day for sure. Cry all you need to but have a laugh as you remember the good times. Comfort yourself in the knowledge that she has no more pain and left this life held by the two people she loved the most.

  34. What a lovely tribute to your beautiful Mum. I stopped work at 4pm to watch. Stew wrote such a lovely eulogy and I loved your niece Christina's letter to your Mum - so beautifully worded. I know in the ideal world you would have Stew, your children and grandchildren sitting there beside you today, but I know they will all have been with you in your heart, and be so proud of how you have supported your Mum and Ron over recent weeks. *Big hugs* ... time now to take some time out to reflect on the wonderful memories your Mum has left you with and refocus on looking after yourself. I know your Stew and your NZ family will be looking forward to seeing you again soon xx

  47. That was a beautiful service! I loved the eulogy and the tributes by Christina and Maxine. I'm so sorry you had to go through this during Covid restrictions and couldn't all be there.

I have to say, the little bit at the end where you kept checking through the curtain was just you all over. It made me smile, even though you may have checking out of curiousity or disbelief!

Much much love and solidarity on this hard day. May the next couple of weeks while you are in Australia be a time for quiet reflection, restoration and relaxation for you. You deserve it xxx
