QUARANTINE QUESTION

One of the shower curtains I bought yesterday has a freakin' LARGE hole in it... so that's going back today.

A friend suggested instead of adding length, just add another set of hooks at the top!  So I might just do that instead of dicking around with trying to lengthen it.  I'm already over it!

I've got a friend calling in this afternoon.  She is an FBG'er, so isn't that lovely?  I left the group a couple of weeks ago, I knew I wouldn't be able to get over there much anymore, so no point staying. Nice to know some of them are good friends now though.

It is card night tonight and I do intend going.  It's one way to keep in touch with a few of those girls in Cambridge.  I shall call into the supermarket this morning for something to take... might be something 'healthy' for a change. Maybe a little platter of meats/crackers/fruits.  Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.

When I arrive in Australia, I will have to sit in a motel for two weeks in Quarantine.

I DON'T MIND... cos it means I will be that much closer to seeing Mum again.

BUT... help me here.  What the hell am I going to do for two whole weeks in a bloody motel?  Besides eat my emotions?

I was wondering if I could take wool with me and crochet a blanket or something?

Books?

Learn to drink?   *** (JUST JOKING) ***

I just don't know, it's not a situation I  have ever had to face before, like thousands of other people around the world during this horrible pandemic.

WHAT CAN YA DO IN A MOTEL ... ON YOUR OWN... FOR TWO WEEKS???

ONWARD...

12.10 pm:  Been out.  I returned the holey shower curtain. Got things to hang the new shower curtain from, lowering it at the same time.

Did the grocery shopping.  Bex came with me and did her's at the same time.

Home.  Groceries away.  Checked if our old laptop could be used over in Aussy by me.  I think it can be.  Was a right shit getting access to all my accounts... I had to sign in and change all the old passwords.  What a rigmarole.

Just had a sandwich for lunch and am going to chill out for a little while.

Well. My girlfriend Christine arrived and spent a lovely hour visiting. I thoroughly enjoyed her visit.

After she left I worked on a small platter to take to Card Night tonight.  As I won't be attending another one for quite a while, I wanted to make a bit of an effort.  Usually I just take a box of crackers and some cheese, or sweets!

ABOVE:  I think it looks nice.

Stew and Brylee have Marinated Pork Steaks, mashed potato and either a salad or baked beans and spaghetti for dinner.  Stew can cook the steaks when he gets home from work.

The Old MOO sent me a couple of photos this afternoon.  I'm saving them for tomorrow.  She's having a good day today, at home with her darling Ron.

Right, I'm off to put on a bit of face, before I go over to Cambridge for a few laughs.

9.40 pm:  And guess what?  I won at cards tonight.  First time in a very long time too.

It was lots of fun as per usual.

Now... watching Coronation Street, then off to bed.

Oh I checked in on The OLD MOO this evening ... she's had a really good day.  Loving being home in the peace and quiet.

Is there something small to make for everyone for xmas? One year my mother cross stitched tiny darling scissor cases for all the girls. Like nail
Scissors size. The whole project would have fit in a gallon zip lock bag and she made lots of them.

    walking in place/floor exercises/stretching
There are a ton of light exercises you can do with very little space and almost no equipment. Water bottles can be weights. A chair can be used for lots of things (chair yoga, or sitting/standing with no hands over and over). I would encourage you to schedule your days so you do light exercise/stretching at regular intervals many times a day. Can watch TV while you do it. You can find lots online. It can be simple and easy but it will help the time, confinement and help you sleep. Otherwise you are going to ache from inactivity.

You could scan family pictures now at home, put them on your laptop or tablet and then make books for xmas presents. They take a lot of time and are really wonderful.

Take a back up phone charger.

  2. Chris, are you flying straight to Coffs Harbour, I don’t know if there are any quarantine hotels other than Sydney. Take your lap top, crochet materials, embroidery, you can get free Netflix for a month I think for a trial. Try to get as much rest as you can, nap when you can,it will pass the time.

    1. My Son can acess his netfilx here in NZ when he is visiting from Australia, so take your password etc and hopefully you will be able to log on to Netflix when in quarantine

  3. Are you allowed to go out and take walks? That would be nice to do if you can. Or do you stay in the motel room for 2 weeks without going anywhere?

    1. Room only, with specific time out in a secure area for exercise. Not allowed to leave the hotel/motel at all. No mixing with other people at all.

Do you know it is a motel or is it a 5 star hotel as it is here. There are exercise areas in the grounds of the hotels here - wear a mask and social distance from everyone else and you will be fine. I have nothing to add to the huge list of ideas that Vickie has come up with (wow!). If you don't think of it as a fortnight and just take one day at a time nearer to seeing your Mum I am sure you will be fine. Audrey

  6. Do you have a kindle? Easy to load up with books and only one thing to carry in your bag.
Wool for knitting or crochet is a good idea, do you do English paper piecing? Easy to carry once again. Do you have messenger? You can chat with people with that. Let me know when you are here, I can ring and say hello and have a chat.

  7. Vickie has pretty much nailed it.Just takes a variety of stuff to do & remember that is is only for 2 weeks and it is all for a good cause. Use it as a chance to relax & look after yourself for once, no pressure to do anything, maybe learn yoga or meditation :-)

  9. Great suggestions from Vickie above. I'm sure you will find lots to keep you entertained. Hopefully you have lots of free wifi in the hotel/motel as well. Maybe you could compile a recipe book of family favourites that you could get printed for family members for Christmas. I look out for the super cheap deals on Grabone with the photo developing places - I buy little soft cover A5 book vouchers, make up recipe books (have been known to do memory books too) and then had them printed for presents. I love the idea of writing your autobiography - would be great to share with the grandkids as they get older.

  11. Take a couple of good books. I have an iPad with books downloaded - much easier to carry. Also take wool and needles, and a sketch book and pencils. When do you leave?

  12. Is that computer going properly? There was a reason you stopped using it right? I write down all my passwords and user names etc. I keep tham all in a file which can only be opened with a password. That password I can remember :) I can give you a page where you can watch Coronation Street while away too which is easily accessed... you'll want to keep up to date with that!

    2. Get a Chromebook - you don't need loads of storage and they are great. All the boys have them for school and they don't cost a lot.

If you like jigsaws, a 1,000 piece on will keep you busy, can't rush them and relaxing, personally I prefer 500 piece ones, get them from an op shop, count the pieces first! Or do them online.
Organise your digital photos into folders of either families or months, years. Take nail polish, facials, bubble bath relax and indulge yourself. Use messenger to video call family and friends. The time will go quickly. So pleased you get to be with your Mum. Heather.
