Second time this week, I'm off to Cambridge.
This time it's to mosaic group.
I will while away a couple of hours yakking, and sticking bits of glass onto me concrete paver.
I'm sure it will be enjoyable.
Then I will come home and make a start on painting the walls that I filled teeny, tiny holes in yesterday.
I'm a bit cross with myself for putting so many hearts on the wall! Never thought I'd be taking them down eh?
In our new home I'm going to mount them all on ONE big piece of ply, so there's only ONE hole in the wall! I already have plans on how to do it differently too... not all across the wall like I had them here.
You will just have to wait a good while, before you can see what I have planned for them.
ABOVE: And I just had to share this.I hope it doesn't signify a shit year!
NAH, it's gunna be an awesome year.
Right, I'm off to get ready to leave for Cambridge. Catch ya later.
I spent an hour this morning DE-CLUTTERING the house some more! I'm slowly taking away all of US ... I feel really sad. ABOVE: my project. It's coming along.
ABOVE: In a garage... with the girls.
1.37 pm, and I'm home, and I've been painting.
ABOVE: I ended up having to paint that entire wall (on the left). Patch painting was not a good look.
ABOVE: And the heart wall is no more. Just waiting for paint to dry now so I can at least put one painting up on that wall.
My home is starting to look very forlorn to me.
All my pretties are slowly going.
ABOVE: There's just the TV on this cabinet now...
ABOVE: Just a few small Christmas decorations on the Credenza, and the one flower arrangement.
I even took off the pretty coloured lights.
ABOVE: AND I took down most of the blue glass. It does NOT look like my home now.
ABOVE: I now have to box up this lot. But that can wait, cos I'm having a damn break.
I'm still looking around trying to see what else I can take away, so the house is not so 'ME'.
And I'm starting to wonder if I should put away the Christmas stuff as well?
At what point do you stop?
8.22 pm. I've been out and about, visited the kids, then joined Stew at the pub. I even had a couple of Bacardi 'n' Cokes! It was fairly rowdy in the pub tonight. My ears are ringing.
Time to sign off for the day, I'm ready for bed! Obviously, I won't be going right now, it's far too early.
Catch ya tomorrow.
I was thinking about consolidating your hearts in a future house too. I was thinking about putting them in a big frame, with a contrasting backing that shows them.
ReplyDeleteOn the clutter topic from yesterday -
Trinkets on a shelf, buyers might think - glad I don’t have to dust all that, but it doesn’t impact them.
However things hanging on the wall in a big grouping, consciously or subconsciously, the holes in the wall are a worry for a potential buyer. Even though you intend to fill the holes, not everyone would. It is a worry for buyers if there is stuff hanging all over the house.
I think I mentioned, the rusty bits in your yard might be a worry too. I don’t think you have to remove them, but IMO it be stated in your house particulars that it is all going with you.

I agree 100% about stuff on the walls and basically anything lying around. Selling a house is about selling someone else's vision, not yours. Forget what you love and think about what others would love. Look at photos of other homes for sale for ideas. I am surprised that your real estate agent didn't say any of this (remember when you sold your Auckland home and you had it dressed?) For hearts on the walls you can attach with 3M velcro for pictures. No holes - we did Stu's fathers entire house like that, not one hole and the walls are covered with his memorabilia.
ReplyDeleteYeh, I saw the WTF.. Awesome, in the right way I hope.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter's dogs are called Waka, Tui and Fern WTF! LOL KJ
ReplyDeleteLove those gorgeous tiles. Wow.kj
ReplyDeleteA little Christmas is nice, your house won't look sterile.
ReplyDeleteLeave the Christmas decorations - you haven't put that much out and you will be living there until after Christmas - there is only three weeks to go. It is your house until it is sold and you and Stew have to still be happy there. People come to look at the house and not your personal items. You have removed far more than I would have done. Filling the holes and painting where necessary makes sense but please stop now. Audrey
ReplyDeletePut it this way, most of your pretty things are packed up ready to go to their new home, one less thing to do on moving day!
ReplyDeleteTaking the holes off etc makes for the prospect buyer not thinking it's a job they will have to do we all know u do that before ys leave but I buyer may just look and think to much work.
ReplyDeleteYou have all you reindeer family away on boxing day anyway everyone knows bits Christmas and it still after all your home and u gotta live there
ReplyDeleteLeave a bit of Christmas EXCEPT if you are getting new photos taken. You don't want to 'date' your photos in case you need to have them shown well into the New Year. Yes, leave them out for current open homes but not for promotional photos. You don't have to take away all of you... just enough to go to market looking modern and fresh.
ReplyDeleteVERY GOOD POINT Lynda! I was thinking of getting new photos done, as a few things have changed in the house since the first lot were taken. And it's included in the new marketing costs... *sigh*. Sucks having to pay again, but it is what it is.
DeleteJesus, woman, what are you doing? Houses need to reflect personality to sell. Leave some blue stuff around. Leave the Christmas decorations around. Please, keep some personality in the house. Don't make it too bland or it'll have the opposite effect. Much love xx Colleen
ReplyDeleteI'm just trying to take on board all the suggestions (and snide comments)... and act on them. I have listened to you, and put a few of the blue things back... but not all of them.
DeleteNooooooooo- christmas it up Chris :-) don't take away all your personality. Enjoy it especially if you aren't on the market again until the new year xx Michele
ReplyDeleteI think packing stuff up for sale is a good idea...less is more so to speak...lol..you can have everything back the way you want soon...Peta
ReplyDeleteI disagree all the sparkle has gone, walls yes curtains yes but the vibe and colour NO you had cow prints up and colour and sparkle
ReplyDeleteIn other homes.
Sucks having to take your personality out of your home. Fingers crossed it sells soon so you can stamp your personality on a new place.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with Lynda’s first comment.i remember back in the day when you were selling last home…..less is more. It’s a personal thing, I hate clutter. Marie, Melbourne
ReplyDeleteMaybe take key photos yourself, just with your phone, standing in the same place, same angle, to compare to the first listing ones and see what you see.
ReplyDeleteVickie
Have you noticed clutter when out viewing for your future house. People like to envision how their stuff will look in the house they are viewing, not your stuff.
ReplyDeleteYou should not be upset with yourself for the holes in the heart wall. You never intended to move again. Make the house the way you want it. NO REGRETS. Plus - you are an expert hole / wall fixer! I am sure your plan for the new heart wall will be clever! Keep the Christmas Decor. It's perfect! Maybe put one large blue glass item back up in the corner of the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteThat is EXACTLY what I did!!!!
