All I wanted for Christmas was a contract on our home.
And today... it will happen!
Our buyers finally got their act together last night, and we all agreed, on all the points.
So, sometime today we will be signing the contracts.
And if all goes through, we will be moving mid February!
So, after Christmas it will be time to pack up even more stuff!
We will still be having Open Homes until the sale got unconditional of course, so I can't pack up everything yet.
Baby bird is doing well.
I will need to go and buy more meal worms, so he has plenty of food over the Christmas period, when the shops are closed.
That's all for now.
Catch ya later.
8.09 am: Gosh, the things you think about overnight!
I was worried Baby bird needed some grass to be on, and a twig to hold onto, for his claws to develop properly.
First thing I did when I got out of bed, still in me nightie, I went outside and dug up a wee bit of our lawn (from a discrete place).
Then I got Baby a new temporary home.
ABOVE: And the first thing Baby did? Climb onto that twig! And he's happily chirping away.
AND I fed him some fresh defrosted muscle this morning... it went down a treat. So I don't need to race around trying to find mealworms now.
That's a relief.
Now. On to the next thing.
I'm off to get more packing boxes. There's quite a bit more I can pack up that we are not using for the next 2-3 months. I'm also going to check out storage facilities. We might be able to store our stuff in a friend's workshop, but if not we will need somewhere for a shit load of stuff until we are ready to move it into our new home.
Which we have not even got yet! I will probably get Stew out and about again after Christmas to firm up somewhere for us to live. YIKES.
Wasted trip out. The Warehouse had virtually no packing boxes left, just a few that were too small.
I rang around, and found some boxes in town, so went in and picked them up. It's a bit cray cray in town, but I did manage to get a car park fairly close to the store.
Now home and contemplating doing a few things towards tomorrow's Christmas lunch.
1.35 pm: I have a chook in the oven, OMG the smell is so good! I don't often roast a chook, I should do it more.
The CONTRACT is on it's way via email... then we just need to 'Docu Sign' and it's a done deal. Thank God.
I tell ya, this has been a nail biting process, and all down to the buyer's FUCKING USELESS Real Estate Agent!!!! She totally ignored virtually every phone call, text, message, voice message etc that our Agent sent her over the past 4 days!
Our agent is going to be talking to that agent's Manager once this is done and dusted.
It's just not good enough, and totally unprofessional.
I KNOW it's the holidays, but that Real Estate Company is OPEN until this evening ffs. It doesn't close down at all. (except tomorrow)
I know this because we are working with another agent from the same company, with a view to purchase something on their books. And SHE has been working with us today, and will be again on Boxing Day!
In answer to questions about contracts and so on... I think it is different in every country.
Here, you sign a conditional contract, once those conditions are met, you pay the deposit and the sale goes 'unconditional'. Then you wait till settlement day, when all the money is paid and you take possession of the home.
Settlement Day is agreed between the parties involved. It's usually 6 weeks, but ours is 3 weeks, on our HOUSE SALE. Not necessarily on our purchase... which is still to be done.
Not even signed a contract with anyone on that score yet.
If it doesn't all even up, we could end up in a motel or on someone's couch for a while!
THIS was the last thing I needed to happen today!
The pool pump shat itself.
I rang Steve, who's on holiday, and he came around immediately.
We had to drain 1/3rd of the pool.
Then he mucked around with the seals etc.... and he seems to have fixed it.
THANK GOD.
All I could see was $$$$$ signs! A new pump would not have been cheap.
Once the pool is full again, we will try it out again.
Though I do believe Steve has fixed it.
Something Stew doesn't have to come home to this evening.
Thank you so much Steve. Love you so very much.
Well, it's been a fantastic day.
We got a contract on our home.
I have another one lined up.
Lacy and I got one bedroom totally sorted out, and several boxes packed up.
The pool pump did not die.
The chook and pastries are cooked, ready for tomorrow.
Fingers & toes all crossed that it goes unconditional with no hitches 🤞
Perhaps the baby bird was you lucky charm 🍀🐥🍀
Knowing you 😉 you'll no doubt have lots of things swirling in your head about your next chapter, your new home, but that's because we all know you like to have a concrete plan and like it to be actioned ASAP
Merry Christmas to you and Stu plus the family (I'm not likely to comment tomorrow as I'll be with my parents) 🎄
Congratulations on the house sale. I just wanted to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks for all the blogs you put out this year. I don't often comment but you're the first blog I read every day and I always check back in the afternoon to read the updates. I know it's a lot of hard work, just want you to know it doesn't go unnoticed. Jo in the US x
Wonderful news about your house sale. Thank you for giving so much of your time to your blog over 2024, I feel I know you lol. Merry Christmas to you, Stu and your lovely family. Relax (hehe), stay safe and be happy and enjoy every day
Super fantastic news Team Harvey, spend some time relaxing in your compliant pool over the next few weeks. Enjoy your Christmas. Had a phone call yesterday from Anthony he is going to be here for one night on 4th January so be nice to have him here for few hours.
I list all our empty boxes, about every six weeks, when it is a good sized pile. I take a picture showing the volume and give them away for free. They are usually picked up in a couple hours. It saves me breaking them down for recycling. Vickie
Can you explain how the real estate thing works over there? Here, you list your property with an agent (like you) but the buyers deal with that agent. There isn't a sellers agent and a buyers agent. Congrats on selling. What a relief and now you can find your next forever home! (We're on our 3rd forever home so I understand!)
Is a deposit paid on signing of contracts Chris? In Australia once contacts are signed and a 0.25% deposit paid a cooling off period of 10 business days starts and the house is off the market for that time. If the purchasers do not pay the balance of the 10% deposit by the end of the cooling off period they forfeit the 0.25% deposit they paid and only then can the house be offered for sale again. I think you mentioned you will be still having open houses until contract becomes unconditional.
Steve is worth a million $. He's so kind and willing to help. Thank goodness he's fixed the pool for Christmas. It will be well used. Lily is not quite sure yet but look out she gets her sea legs. Have a wonderful time with everyone. Thanks for your friendship my friends.kj
Parents to several adult kids, and 14 Grandkids (aged New born (2024), to 23 yrs old). FYI: We have a large 'family', but due to many and various reasons, we only see a few now. It is what it is. Attitudes. Personalities. Narcissism. Grudges. Perceived slights/favouritism. Backstabbing. etc. DAYS. OF. OUR. LIVES. SHIT. So, you get to see those who we choose to see, and those who do still see us as FAMILY, and who love us unconditionally. The rest can live their lives and just leave us alone. Thanks.
WHERE I LIVE:
New Zealand, it's in the South Pacific... and it's NOT a part of Australia! We are home of the All Blacks rugby team, the Kiwi (bird, but can't fly) and lots of bloody neat people!
WHO AM I? Here's where to find out.

RECAP... WHO AM I?
This post is going to be a WHO AM I, and my family run down... it is for people who have not been here from the start.
Fingers & toes all crossed that it goes unconditional with no hitches 🤞
