It's the 5th Mothers Day without my Mum.
4.7 years of reaching for the phone to tell her something, ask her something, just speak to her.
And then I remember. She's not going to answer, ever again.
It does not get any easier. But I am learning to accept it. Learning to just remember the good times, the fun times. And accept loss is a part of living, we all lose family over time.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY MUM, wherever your soul rests now.
Mum's birthday usually coincided with Mother's Day, either the same weekend/day, or close. So a double whammy loss.
Personally, I don't 'do' Mothers Day. I firmly believe you should show you care for you Mother every day of the year, not just on one HEAVILY COMMERCIALISED DAY of the year. Mothers Day is for the RETAILERS.
Stew and I will probably go out to lunch somewhere nice, as we usually do on the weekend. That's all I want, thanks.
ABOVE: This was taken about 7 years ago, but it's one of my all time favourite photos of Mum and Mike.
ABOVE: We went to David's Emporium for buttons (for eyes), and also got some really cheap felt as well.
ABOVE: And finally, I bought some new sneakers. NOT for walks with the FBG's, rather for out and about in town etc. It was quite a mission finding them I must say. I had almost given up in fact, when we found these at the Skecher's Shop at The Base. Skechers sneakers really suit my feet.
Thinking of you today chick I'm sure THE OLD MOO will be watching from above GM 💙💙
ReplyDeleteHugs on missing your mother. I miss mine like mad. She's been gone 26 years now and the hurt of her passing is still fresh. Sad they had to leave us. Ky Girl
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the commercialisation of Mothers Day and in fact all special days! Our families have always celebrated Mothers Day etc without it costing a cent! My beautiful girls love fussing over me, and I fuss over them too as they are both Mothers so our Mothers Day is spent in each others presence and no presents to be seen. Love is free 💓💓💓.

ReplyDeleteMum has been gone 22 years, whether its 5 22 or whatever, it’s not easy. You just know they have gone forever 😢 Margaret
ReplyDeleteMy mother has been gone for a very long time and I still get that I want to call you, feeling. My birthday and mothers day are close too so I have two cards on the mantle now from my daughter that still sends cards. My husband who has been gone now for 5 years, always brought me flowers. I said but I am not your mother, and he would say, but you are a mother, even though my kids were not his. I thought it was so sweet. Now I buy myself those flowers and remember all the years that he did that. I have my favourite photo of him beside my chair and talk to him evey day when I am missing him.Gigi
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day. I agree it's not about the day itself.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated Mother's Day to you!
