THURSDAY - THE DAY BEFORE

Our last day living here, sleeping here... and I will certainly miss this gorgeous home.

There's a bit to do today, probably the biggest job will be loading the trailer with all the smaller garden pots, bench seat, etc.

Lacy is coming over to help with some cleaning.

I want to pull all the furniture out from the walls and vacuum behind it.  And clean the skirting boards, window sills etc.

We just want to get as much done today that we can, so there is less to do tomorrow.

Luckily, there's NOT TOO MUCH 'last minute' packing to get done today.

How the hell did I do all this, so many times before?  And with kids in tow?  At least we only had to work around ourselves this time.

Coco is going to have a sleep over at Steve and Bex's tonight.  We will get her back either tomorrow night, or Saturday morning, once the madness is over.

Well, it won't be 'over' as such, as there will be heaps to do once we are in the new house.

Not least, unpacking, then bringing back everything that is in storage.  OMG I'm not looking forward to that.

I think we will be shuffling around boxes and out of place shit for weeks/months. πŸ˜–πŸ˜•

I do not know how the HELL we are going to fit all our stuff in the house, it has kept me awake for months.

Something tells me more is going to the Hospice shop.

It is 10.25.  And Stew and I have finished the packing.  The trailer will be loaded later on this afternoon.
We are now sitting 'twiddling our thumbs'!

ABOVE:  So many empty rooms/areas!

ABOVE:  All ready to go in the moving truck tomorrow morning.

ABOVE:  Lacy just picked up her lawnmower... and she's off to mow her lawns.  She's thrilled to have a lawn mower now.  She will be back tomorrow morning to do the final cleaning jobs for me.
Thank goodness for Lacy, Steve and Bex, we can always count on them.

ABOVE:  Coco's last day basking in the sun in this home.  Next for her is a little vacation with Steve 'n' Bex, then she's coming home to a new house.  I wonder how long it will take her to find the prime sunny spots to sit in?  😊

ABOVE: Seemed appropriate.

ABOVE:  We had lunch at FERGUS, and now... time to pack the trailer and fill the gaps in our cars.  TICK TICK TICK

I just ordered the new dining area light... and we shall go up to Auckland sometime next week to pick it up.  It will give us a timely break from unpacking, which we will need by then.

ABOVE:  Steve you will be pleased to see it's not another 'butt plug' shaped light fitting!  It's much more modern, and will give the room a lift into the 21st century.  lol

ABOVE: The trailer is full and ready to go... tomorrow.  My car has gaps for the last minute kitchen and bathroom stuff.  Taking another break now.

OMG I'm getting so cross. I keep losing what I've written... so for the third time... we just got home from the pub. Usual routine.. him to the pub, me to the kids.
I've finished packing everything except our toiletries and bedding.
That will obviously happen in the morning.
Catch ya tomorrow.

Yes, it will all fit or it won't... ;-) Do you have to be out of the storage unit tomorrow as well or have you rented it for a couple weeks more? Ky Girl

    1. It's rented until the end of June, so no super rush to get it emptied. Though Stew is hoping to get it all done while he's off work next week.

Oh good, glad there isn't an immediate rush to start moving boxes over and emptied. I understand where Stew is coming from. Be nice to get all settled in. Ky Girl

  2. What an adventure!
I don't think you will be living out of boxes for very long at all.
Get the kitchen and clothes unpacked.
Make sure you don't have a dozen spatulas... HA.
When I helped a friend move she had a dozen of them. Have a few boxes ready for donation so if you realize you have more than you need or more than you can fit - just send it on it's way.

We had to downsize with rebuilding after the earthquake, ashamed to say we still have storage facility (since 2012) This is the year we will clean it out, ( say that every year). It has some of my mum's belonging in there and she has been gone over 20 years... I am such a sentimental person, so hard to get rid of "stuff" I hope your move goes smoothly and that you embrace the next steps in your life! I bet you will love it! Margaret

  6. When you get there make your bed then just do one box at a time. You work like a Trojan so I am sure you will get it done quickly then rearrange everything 57 times πŸ’•

  7. I always do bedroom first then kitchen bathroom at least you can sleep eat shower, don’t give away too much stuff on impulse at first.
Could you or are you able to have a little cabin on property for sewing room and use garage as extra family room? I may have asked that before

    1. I'm quite sure a 'cabin' on the property would be out of the question. I am perfectly happy to sew in the garage...not like I haven't done that before. And yes, I will hold of getting rid of anything else until I'm 100% sure I don't want/need it. I've already sold or given away SO MUCH!

  10. Exciting times... definitely donate more as you unpack. What a job that will be! Don't worry about not fitting stuff in, just get rid of more. I know all of my stuff would fit in your new place, it's amazing what you don't need. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all goes :)

I agree, start with the absolute musts, to see what fits.

Think of what is worthy to go thru the doorway. Necessities/Things you use daily first. My guess is somethings you will reduce by whole category (get rid of it all) and other things you will reduce volume (keep 2, donate 10). Yes, I know you have already cleaned out a lot. Seeing what fits and looks good will help reduce much more.

My daughter’s next door neighbors downsized 3-4 years ago. She keeps having her husband build more storage systems. They need to get rid of half of what they have instead of trying to make things fit. It looks ridiculous.

  17. You've got everything under control. I'm sure it will be a smooth move. Though I can imagine the huge job you've got moving all stuff inside the new house and finding the right spots. I love that light shade too. Aesthetically pleasing ☺️☺️♥️

  20. OMG! I took a spontaneous trip out of town and have missed everything from this point on. So - I shall begin reading backwards. It seems like I did a lot of scrolling to get back into familiar territory. So, I shall have a ... what do you call it??? A TIPPLE (YUMMY DRINK) and enjoy the story of the move.
