Today I am joining in with a group of ladies from the village to do a good deed.
Every year the ladies cut out and stitch up sanitary pads for girls/women in third world countries, and poorer nations.
It is an all day affair by the sound of it.
And today I am going to do it for the first time.
So I need to pack up my sewing machine, get bits 'n' bobs like threads, scissors etc and take it all down to the craft room by 9 am.
Oh and I better not forget my Diet Coke and lunch.
I am hoping its a nice experience, and a chance to get to know more people from here.
I will try to pop back in here a few times during the day to give you all an update.
`
Quickly... cos I'm standing in the rain to get internet access... having a nice time. Getting heaps done. About 3 hours to go.
3 pm, and I'm home again. I did have a lovely time today! There were about 9 ladies all working together for a good cause. We had a shared morning tea, and took our own lunches.
ABOVE: That is the charity we were making products for. Not just menstrual pads, but little drawstring bags to put them in as well.
So there were a variety of jobs to do, and we all got to do several, to cut down the boredom of only stitching one thing all day.
I really did enjoy it.
NOW... funny story.
Remember me telling you about the little old lady just up from me, who avoided me like the plague the other day? I'm going to call her Ms. X.
Well, when I was getting ready to leave for the craft room this morning, it was fair pissing down. I stood under my eaves getting ready with me bag, drink and umbrella... and who should come out of her house but Ms X.
She proceeded to put on her hat, raincoat and put up her umbrella. The she started walking towards my house... cos she has to pass it if she's going that way.
As she drew closer I said 'Good Morning' with a big smile on my face ... and oh dear. She had to say 'Hello' back to me, cos anything else would have been SO RUDE eh?
So, I start walking down our little shared road, expecting her to be right behind me. A few seconds later, I can't help myself, and I look back.
And there is she is, hurrying back INTO HER HOUSE!
I had to laugh. I mean, anyone would think I was going to attack her in the street the way she is acting!!!
I didn't bother to wait and see if she came out again, cos I had work to do.
But I'm starting to feel weird about it.
Stew says it's obviously her problem, not ours and to just ignore it. But how she is acting is just off.
Moving on, Coco and I have lovely fresh hot pods and are going to enjoy a couple of hours doing diddly squat.
7 pm. Stew arrived home and met me down at the clubrooms, so he could carry my sewing machine out, and bring it home. Job done.
I'm now contemplating a very early bedtime, I can't believe how tired I am! It's a long time since I sewed for hours on end, it's done me in.
Signing off for the day, catch ya tomorrow.
That is a nice thing to do. I often wonder how women got by before sanitary napkins. The hassle of it all is what I am talking about. We rip open a box and there one was. I hope you enjoy your day! Ky Girl
ReplyDeleteLovely of you to volunteer. I don’t do any voluntary work, I’ve been a blood donor for 50 years, that’s all. And not being able to sew a hem, I couldn’t do what you’re doing! Marie, Melbourne
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day, and what a neat way to meet new people all with a common cause today - Margaret
ReplyDeleteAwesome. What a wonderful thing for the ladies to do. Have fun. Kj
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! My friend has been sewing her own for years. This is such a cool idea.
ReplyDeleteOh god! that bought a memory of days gone by come flooding back. Wad of old pj sleeves to catch the flow..then the stupid elastic and pins...the 'olden' days.
ReplyDeleteGirls think they got it tough.
Omg I'm so pleased you're having a good time! Yay... that's so cool. That's what you want in a village ππ©·
ReplyDeleteHow cool what a great thing that is we have sun but rain is coming for sure.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day.
You may need a trolley on wheels (cart) for your sewing gears.
I remember the toweling strips hanging on the neighbours clothesline after washing. Kj
ReplyDeleteHaha funny about the neighbour. She is going to waste so much time checking to see if you aren’t hiding in your doorway when she has to speak to you. You on the other hand will be doing your own thing but ready to say good morning in a lovely welcoming voiceπ€£. As Stew says he problem no yours
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a lovely day seeing with the ladies. A good way to get to know different ones with the awkwardness of just sitting & making small talk. As for Mrs X - she is pathetic, I actually laughed out loud when I read that because it sounds like a character out of Midsummer Murders πππ. If you wanted to have fun you could “go for a walk” every time you saw her about to leave her house so she would have to scurry back in - oh but wait, you actually have a life & things to do rather than wait around to torment mad old ladies ππ
ReplyDeletelol.... yeah I do have better things to do. But then again... ... ... yeah nah.
DeleteI read that neighbour comment, I too laughed. Then thought what nasty things the complaining neighbour may be bullying her with if she makes a life of complaining goodness what hold she could have on some it’s a them problem.
ReplyDeleteMake up a window sign
“Let them”
Oh and in my nights of insomnia I thought about why not sew up the dead tree each night with an ornament! Like in covid times.
Nice idea about the tree, but I DARE not, I'm quite positive 'they' would lay a complaint about me again.
DeleteWhat a funny lady. She needs to wake up and realize you're nota sad old lady wΔ₯vu
ReplyDeleteJust keep smiling and waving - what an odd person. Let her avoid you but whatever you do, don't let it stop you being active in the village. One day hopefully she will become more friendly.
ReplyDeleteHaha. I love your dedication to your blog that you were standing in the rain to update for everyone π₯°
ReplyDeleteHow very odd of the neighbour. Definitely her problem
