Stew is back to work today, after a 16 day 'break'. Not much of a break though, he's had heaps to do with us moving and starting to unpack here.
There's plenty more to do of course, but I know we will get it all done eventually.
The single biggest upheaval will be when we rip this out:
ABOVE: This is the existing bathroom. It LOOKS ok eh?
It's not. The shower is a nightmare, the door does not close properly, and the shower head sprays water in weird directions. Both the taps on the vanity leak all over the bench top. And the bath?
ABOVE: That's the plug hole. Not exactly inviting.
Luckily, we are getting it all removed in the next month or two.
We just have to wait until the new shower, vanity and tapware arrive. Then we can co-ordinate the strip out, and install of the new. We are not adding a new bath, giving us room for a bigger shower, and a storage cupboard.
ABOVE: Stew did a wonderful job of organising the Wood Shed yesterday. He's got a bit more to do yet, but it's a good start. There is even room in there for the drying rack. Though, that drying rack is on it's last legs, and I've ordered a new one. It should arrive in a day or two.
Today I am going to concentrate on bringing more back from the storage unit. I think Lacy is coming over to help with that.
Then I can work on unpacking a few more boxes.
ABOVE: I've also seen a small shelving unit that I will get for the kitchen. I need to ring the shop this morning and order it.
ABOVE: This is the corner the microwave was before, just sitting on the bench. It left very little bench room to even swing a friggin' cat.
ABOVE: OK, maybe I didn't just sit. I hung those two painting because I knew all along where I wanted them to go. The rest will wait... PROBABLY. 😖😂
Would it work in the pantry?

I know your kitchen is small, but look at the light that comes in. Fantastic!! You'll get used to it. :-)
ReplyDeleteDid you say your Village has restaurants or a dining hall? Ky Girl
I love the
ReplyDeleteKitchen so much light could you have microwave back on bench shelf stand underneath with jug and things on top or cupboards above or is that where the shelf unit is going?
Lots of possibilities as you say won’t know configurations until all is in the house.
The storage unit is definitely decreasing.
Could you put the microwave on a shelf above the bench where it originally was? so it would be easier to access...you don't want to get burnt dropping hot fluids on yourself it looks too high... I saw Ikea has various shelving units that just sit on the bench with room underneath...Peta
ReplyDeleteTwo ideas for the microwave - put it lower than it is by removing the doors on the cupboard below and putting them above so that the microwave is in a lower position. Or, mount a unit above the bench where it was originally. You can have it made the same as the other cupboards. My daughter has one there and it works well and it has little doors on a cupboard above it too.
ReplyDeleteYes I think removing the doors under where the microwave is would be a good idea too.
DeleteMy microwave is above my oven and the cupboard above the microwave. Also I see a lot of microwaves above cooktops so the microwave doubles as microwave and exhaust fan. Not sure that's a possibility. Love the light in your kitchen too. And your chair ... I would buy that chair in a hot minute if I found one! Erin
DeleteAll good ideas but I know you'll work it out Chris. Glad your pictures have found a home. Kj
ReplyDeleteHanging the pictures was best therapy for you . Adds to the feel of it being your home!
ReplyDeleteThe shelving system you were going to buy for the kitchen is too heavy from a visual point of view. Our last kitchen was this small and IKEA saved me - really plain shelves, things designed for maximum usability in minimal space. I strongly recommend!
ReplyDeleteAlso I think the items behind your beautiful new chair really detract from it. The candle stick thing and flowers clutter the space too much! MY TWO CENTS WHICH YOU WILL HATE HAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaa
Thanks 'B'... I have already moved the flowers from behind the pretty colourful chair. Far too much going on there, I agree. As for the kitchen shelving unit, if it does not look good in the kitchen, it can go in the bloody loo! I need something in there for bits 'n' bobs.
ReplyDeleteGood for Lacy! You're emptying that storage unit but omg..... Your lounge is rather crowded. At least it's there in front of you. No use saying it slowly 😅
ReplyDeletePs a small kitchen is a good kitchen. Lol. Maybe you'll see ours one day. You can stand in the middle and just swivel to reach everything. Definitely not kiwi style
ReplyDeleteYou have so much stuff because you are a shop`a`holic. Have you ever tried to go a month or just a week without buying anything ? Maybe you just can not say no to everything you see and like. I used to be like that, then I got sick of the clutter. You will fell better with less, I guarantee it. Isn’t that why you downsized? You are so lucky to have help from Lacy. Are you allowed to have a sale in front of your house to get rid of unneeded items? We call them garage sales. Gigi
ReplyDeleteIn my Twizel house when I renovated I made every room bigger except the kitchen benches were increased but the floor space was smaller. And I loved it.
