So. Late start as I was thinking.
My inner debate with how I feel about blogging in this day and age.
With trolls and haters reading my blog, leaving nasty, vile comments... it does make me wonder if I want to continue blogging.
I know I've talked about this before, and contemplated leaving the blog community altogether.
I constantly WANT to stop. The single and ONLY reason I have not YET is because Stew does not want me to let the trolls and haters 'win'.
But is it 'winning' if I am not happy doing this anymore?
So the debate continues in my head.
AND BACK TO TODAY....
Well.... as I thought, I did not get the Fat Bottomed Girls Runner finished yesterday.
So, I will finish it today. For sure.
I only have one more lady to complete, then the backing and binding added.
ABOVE: This is the third girl... all done. Just one to go. And she is 70% done too. I just have to do her hair.
I took a few photos of flowers and foliage on our walk yesterday. Lacy said I was being an 'old lady'. Pfffft.
ABOVE: I'm like, what's wrong with taking pretty photos of nature?
I anticipate another walk around the neighbourhood sometime today, apart from that, it will be a stay at home day. Funny that, considering we are still in lockdown.
I wonder how many new cases will be reported today? Our numbers are quite high (for our country) at the moment. I sure hope they start falling soon.
I miss not being able to go shopping. I need more cottons, and some fabrics of certain colours are getting low too!
Once lockdown is over I can see a fabric shopping trip happening.
ABOVE: Number 4 girl is done. She's gorgeous. I'm having lunch, then going back to sew on the baking and binding.
ABOVE: Well that was bloody yum! AND we have enough mince and mashed potato to feed Stew and I again tomorrow night.
Surely if you write and have photos of things you love such as your brilliant sewing and nature - everyone likes photos of beautiful flowers - then the trolls and haters won't have much (if anything) to say. I agree with Stew, too many bloggers that I have enjoyed in the past have stopped because of the trolls and the trolls have won!! Only stop if YOU don't want to do it any more not because you are forced to. Just my opinion for what it's worth. Audrey, Rotorua
ReplyDeleteHaters are gona hate, let them, all you do is press 'delete' and yea on the up side lol your page is getting heaps of views lol 😂 your haters are making DCR famous lol
ReplyDelete#Lacy 💙
Dont let them win. Although I do understnd how demoralising having to filter all that crap out of your comments. Is there someone who could also moderate for you and get rid of the nasty comments before you get to read them. It's sad that there are such pathetic people like trolls. Sas sad sad worthless people.
ReplyDeleteI would miss you if you went. KarenAK
I have suggested this several times - please switch your settings so you do not allow any anonymous comments. Have all your friends, that normally sign their names, register so they are not anonymous.
ReplyDeleteA nice thought, but as I have found out, a person who wishes to remain 'anonymous' can create a 'fake' Google account and still leave comments. It is already being done by a few trolls who leave comments. 'D n' for one. So not allowing anon's would not work.
DeleteIf you did this - could you "ban" certain commenters? I understand they could use a different email and keep spamming - but it would be more work for them every single time they decide to post a prick comment.
Delete3. Turn off comments. But, then YOU would miss US! Hopefully.....
DeleteI certainly would miss all my lovely readers, particularly those (like you) who always leave lovely comments!
DeleteI think if they are registered, not anonymous, you can track them. I remember a blogger who had problems with someone and she was able to track them to their specific place of employment where they were using the computer.
DeleteYou do what is best for you yes we will miss it but you being happy and happier is more important ….. the FBG are looking more and more fantastic… 💖
ReplyDeleteNO NO. Don't stop. I would miss you. Options.
ReplyDelete1. Go private. I know this limits your readers - but a lucky few would be in the mix.
2. Put someone else in charge of filtering the comments. Steve, Stew, your kids, or a reader or two. If you don't read or see the comments - they can't hurt you.
There are an awful lot of nice readers that are in this space too. More than there are haters (I hope).
I am just baffled that people would stumble upon a blog... any blog.... and then read it on a regular basis and post hate. But people do it everywhere. What a strange phenomenon.
Perhaps the trolls are more than just random haters and that is what hurts Chris so much. Don't let them win, you've done nothing wrong and any mistakes you may have made are only because you love all of your family. Hope Chris can stop worrying about this again soon - always something to worry about, isn't there, just as you think things are coming right. Audrey
DeleteI simply love your blog Chris. I hope you continue, but totally understand why you would want to stop. Very simply, lots of people love your blog.
ReplyDeleteHi yes we all enjoy your blog....but its up to you..we can always send you an email....I think we all enjoy looking at your clever sewing and photos of plants (yes Lacy) ha ha and general New Zealand life etc..
ReplyDeleteCheers
Peta
Can you do a click and collect or get supplies posted from Spotlight? I know NZ lockdown restrictions are very tough. Here, even in the tight lockdown, we can get takeaway coffee and food etc, which I read NZ can’t. Hopefully with some restrictions easing you’ll be able to go shopping soon. Liz
ReplyDeletePliers is certainly safer than what i use which is a huge knife i wont say sharp cause that kills the knife big time. Love the bright cheery runner..just thought no tree this lockdown
ReplyDeleteI love your blog but I can understand why it would be so hurtful having to read nasty comments a lot. You should feel free to be who you are and not worry about their thoughts though and not let nasty people think they have got one over on you. I would miss reading your blog terribly. I think your new runner looks great.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand you wanting to quit and will miss you dreadfully. You have to do what is good for you but you know this. Love and hugs.
ReplyDeleteI love your FBGs!
ReplyDeleteI have bought yarn from spotlight and had it delivered in lockdown. Not sure how fabric would go.
ReplyDeleteAs for the haters and trolls, I think they probably fall into two categories. Genuinely anonymous pimply faced dickheads who think they're clever and family members and their pimply faced dickhead friends who are being particularly cruel. It would be sad if they thought they had won. I cannot begin to imagine what sad, sad, little minds these people must have and how miserable their existence must be if being bitchy on a blog gives them their jollies.
Amen Sparkling you nailed it 🙌👏
DeleteCant see the one sent earlier Chris with support for the blog but I know you will do what’s best for you all basically is what it said
ReplyDeleteLove the pics n all you share with us,
Cheers 🥂

💖
lol I think there were 'other' attributes that attracted him too.
DeleteLol pottery painting cooking the list goes on 😂
ReplyDeleteJust popping in to say I haven't forgotten you. Those runners are delightful. You are so talented. Will be pleased to see lockdown levels come down but realistically I think it will take a while to get back to what we had. Take care and stay safe. xx
ReplyDeleteI hope you don’t stop blogging but am all for you taking away any unnecessary stress. The trolls would pretend they were happy if you stopped but would actually miss your blog. Haters are actually fans in disguise 🤣 Your sewing is so good. I can’t even take a hem up, luckily my husband can!
ReplyDeleteI would miss your blog too, and don't understand following someone but posting hateful comments. If you don't like it/don't agree with it, jog on and read something else instead - simples. I like the sound of the baked carrot dish, I do something similar with a mix of mashed potato/kumera, beaten egg and nutmeg baked together but often have extra carrots/onions to use up so will try that. I'm in two minds about whether NZ is doing the right thing with lockdown......once vaccinations are carried out on as many of the population as possible might it be safe to open borders ? I don't think anywhere can be "covid-free" without a huge amount of sacrifice/isolating etc. I think we in the UK, having had so many lockdowns, are starting to feel we must accept covid is going to be around for a while but life has to go back to some sort of normal. We can still be vigilant and take precautions but it was torture not seeing family for months on end. Would be interested in your or others' views?
ReplyDeleteKind regards
Jane G
New Zealand's Covid numbers are looking like they did in March 2020. They can either lock down now and get it under control - or they can start filling up their ICU's like the USA. Hospitals in some locations are running out of oxygen. I would prefer New Zealand's strategy. Hopefully people are smarter there and will go get the jabs. Give them a few months to vaccinate and then consider opening up again. They are SO CLOSE might as well stay strict and stay healthy/alive.
DeleteThanks for comment Dogstars. I guess it's relatively easy to control in such a small country and easier to monitor entry at Borders but what happens when borders do re-open....someone will slip through the system when you have millions of tourists from all over the world visiting. We have rising numbers of positive cases in Scotland but thanks to vaccination very few actually having symptoms/needing medical intervention. No system is perfect though I appreciate, and I'm a little biased as I would like my oldest to still have a business to run in NZ and to see her again in the not too distant future !
