DIFFUSERS, AND MORE SEWING.

Yesterday one of my lovely readers asked what diffuser did we buy?

So here goes:

We both chose one, going on what smell, and bottle we liked.

ABOVE:  I chose this one because the bottle is gorgeous, and the smell is not too floral.

ABOVE:  And Stew chose this one because he liked the smell.  The bottle is very cute too.

I have never had diffusers before, so have no idea how long they last?  Can you get more of the liquid when it runs out?  Do the sticks last forever, or do you need to get new sticks too?

Now, moving on to today.  I have one more Fat Bottomed Ladies runner to get ready for stitching.  Then I will have five ready to go.

Four of the ones ready to go have three ladies on them, and one has only two ladies.  So maybe I shall make one with four ladies, and another one with only two.

I shall be ringing the sewing machine shop today, to see if there is any news on McDreamy.  The lady in the shop said she would find out for me, so fingers crossed!

Right, that's me for now... I have no idea what Stew will get up to today... he doesn't have any 'hobbies' as such.  That will have to change one day, when he's home all day, every day.  One thing we are planning on doing together is playing snooker!  And maybe Pickleball!  I almost went to a Beginners class of Pickleball last night, but I wasn't feeling very well.

Probably not as unwell as other people, sorry other people.

**********

...  11.15 am and I ring the sewing machine shop to see what's happening with McDreamy.  'N' said "Oh it's here, sorry I forgot to ring you".  We jump in the car and drive over to Frankton to get him.

BUT, before I leave the shop, I said to 'N',  I want to test it out, before taking it home again.

ABOVE:  And so up on the desk he went, and I sat down and tried a couple of stitches I use all the time.

*SCREAMS*.... it is still not working properly !!!

I was beyond gutted, and then bloody annoyed as fuck!  WHY didn't the damn technician double check using stitches other than straight and ziz zag?

Clearly there is a problem with the 'mother board'... which could cost thousands to replace.  In which case, I shall be getting a totally new machine.  No way am I sending thousands to fix a 13 year old machine.

Bearing in mind sewing machines should last 50+ years!  WTF?

So, it's back to using 'Baby' for now... just piecing and doing basic shit.  I cannot get any runners finished now.

Deep breaths, I'm going to make our lunch, then continue getting runners ready for stitching.

5.05 pm, and it's all done for now.  6 Fat Bottomed Girl Runners ready for stitching.

SEWING MACHINES:  Mine does have a lot of 'fancy' stitches, but at the end of the day all I need is a machine that does straight stitch, satin stitch and Serpentine Stitch.  And has a wide 'throat', that's the gap between the needle and the right hand side of the work space.

The only machines that have the wide throat tend to be machines with all the 'fancy' stitches.  And they are expensive as F.

Hence getting McDreamy in the first place.

I am going to do my homework if I have to get another machine, and hopefully find one that does what I need, and bugger all else.  Might be a pipe dream.

I am quite knackered now... it is very hot and humid in the sewing room.

We are going over to the kids in an hour or two, we are dropping Coco off.  She is going to have a sleep over and play date tomorrow while we are at market.

I feel really sorry for her when she's home alone too often.  And she just loves being over with the kids and Marley.

11 pm and I'm off to bed.  Hoping to get a decent sleep.

I thought you meant electric diffusers lol. I gave up on those stick ones years ago cos the smell never lasts. And yes you have to refill it and get new sticks

  4. I wouldn't bother with those types of diffusers. There are better ways to keep a nice scent in a toilet. Does your toilet have a fan? I'm not finding the snigger remarks funny but whatever, your blog so do what you want. Regarding hobbies, trust me, you need to have interests and hobbies. I have Stu around me 24/7 and thankfully we are either travelling in the motorhome or he is busy at home with his many hobbies/interests. Going from fulltime work to zero can be a difficult transition, especially if they have had staff below them and a position of importance.

There's a company here called Mask and I have one of their diffusers in my toilet. It's been there several months now and I can still smell it when I walk in, but the one in my bathroom (bigger room) has run out so I need to change it. You can refill some of them. xx Colleen

It depends how long it takes to burn the stick. Don't put them near a window or a draft. Hope you feel better soon. Kj

You don't burn the sticks, they absorb the liquid in the bottle

Chris, turn the reeds upside down every three weeks. This will prolong the life of your diffuser.

The sewing tech should have made a sample using all the stitches to make sure it was working OK, especially as it was returned because not fixed!
Old mechanical sewing machines last 50+ years. New machines with computers, not so much. It maybe the end of Dreamies life :-(

    1. 100% agree about the technician. And yes, it might be the end of McDreamy. So sad if it is.

If it will still sew straight and zigzag, then it could be the machine you take to sewing days. You would just have to plan ahead to only do simple things.

As much as you sew, and layered pieces, I hadn’t thought about it, but I guess you will wear out new machines.

But since you need/like the fancy stuff, a heavy duty old machine will not work for you.

  12. Bugger and yes why would you not check all stitching?
My sister and I did “walking” soccer when I was in Aussie on futsal courts. A lot of fun.

These new machines with all their computers. I bought my Elna 55+ years ago and it’s only ever been serviced twice. Runs like a dream still. Of course it doesn’t do the fancy stuff you do.

  15. I tried pickle ball a few weeks ago and it was pretty good fun... I'd try it again but the people were really into it 🤣

Love a good diffuser.. i have a good one in my bathroom and its delicious. I think from Freedom. Subtle scent and not too fake and in your face.

I'd say 13 years is pretty good for mcDreamy considering all the sewing you've done. The cheap berninas are very good for basic machine. A lot of girls use them for sewing days when they have to travel. Kj

  17. Do you think any of the village ladies may have a sewing machine for sale?
    Might be worth a shot.

Thanks so much for the update on the Diffusers
Think I will look at the Ecoya one as an alternative to what I usually get .
Agree with the others upside downing the wee bamboo sticks often,🥰
We have a big bathroom with big windows and door so never feels overpowering ,just a gentle continual background scent.
Lovely Coco is off for a sleepover ,those wee ones will love her being there too.
Hope markets go well tomorrow for you guys,
    Cheers 🥂

  19. OMG! I would be fuming.
I hope you don't have to pay for repairs that were not needed while they didn't even diagnose the major problem whatsoever.
Like paying for an oil change when the engine is blown. They should have diagnosed it correctly and given you a proper quote on day one.
"Well, the oil change is $100 but you still can't drive it because it needs a new engine".
    Oh, thanks for that!
I'm MAD for you! HAHA Good luck!

  20. Geez the tech should test out the machine before telling you it's all set!

  21. That happened to me the last time i paid for a repair. Still skipping stitches. So annoying.

I bought a Janome when my husband and I first got together, so I could make the bridesmaid dress I wore to his brother's wedding. 30 years ago. It's never been serviced in its life. I don't use it anywhere near as often as you use yours, but it still goes. I recently upgraded and bought a new one, and gave the old one to my daughter (although, for some reason, it's still at my house!!). Good luck. xx Colleen
