So, I sit and ponder things... sometimes far too much.
And what I'm pondering right now, after a steady stream of quite nasty comments (most unpublished)... is, why do you read this blog?
Is it to enjoy, feel a part of my life, like seeing what I'm doing, and to be encouraging and nice?
Or is it to see what you can do to tear me down?
I have had over 100,000 comments over the lifetime of this blog. And I can say that probably 90% of them have been lovely.
The other 10%? Not so nice. And in fact, there's a few people who almost always comment with a negative connotation. It isn't nice people. If you have nothing nice to say, how about you just keep it to yourself?
It's Thursday. I am going over to Cambridge this morning to join the girls at Mosaics.
8.35 am: I've just been for a nice little walk along the river side.As expected, I couldn't go far on 'our side' due to work being done.
ABOVE: I came to 'the fence', and as it said the path was closed 'ahead', I carried on till I came to the closed part. The sign also said 'Follow the Detour'... there was no detour.
ABOVE: There it was, a BEAUTIFUL BLUE TRACTOR! That made my day.
The contractors have 9 weeks work ahead of them, building up the river bank with rocks, then building a boardwalk over it.
After it's done, even when the river is super high, we will be able to walk all the way along the riverbank to Pukete Bridge again.
ABOVE: The blue lines indicate where the boardwalk is going to start. I can't wait to see it finished. You will, of course, get to see it too.😊😉
It is now 8.45 am, and it's time to head off to Cambridge. I won't be doing any more mosaic work, or even knitting. I might just sit and YAK. lol
To any keyboard warrior... just remember there can be many 'interpretations' of what you write. While you might not mean to offend, criticise etc... how someone else reads your words is up in the air! I have fallen foul of this on many occasions myself, so it's not just you.
BE KIND. BE CONSIDERATE. BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR WORDS.
12 noon, and I'm home after a really lovely morning.
Spent yakking, of course.
AND, I saw what everyone is making, and now I have some MOSAIC inspiration!
ABOVE: 'S' has made this gorgeous wall art, and as I also have a piece of that perspex, I'm going to make one very similar to hers. It's gorgeous.
ABOVE: 'S' has also been knitting little dolls for the Paediatric Ward at the hospital. I MIGHT make some too... maybe. We will see.
I get a local painting of where we have lived, and every time we move, I get a new painting of the new town/city etc.
When we moved from Cambridge to Hamilton, I had to give away my 'Cambridge' painting, as it was too big for the wall I have all my : 'we have lived here' paintings on.
So, I have been on the look out for a smaller painting for a year or more.
I visited a local gallery in Cambridge this morning.
I told the lady I was looking for a SMALL painting of something very obviously CAMBRIDGE.
I said, like The Church, The Water Tower or one of the Bridges.
She showed me this:
ABOVE: I was gobsmacked! How on earth ? A ceramic 'painting', small and with ALL THREE Cambridge icons on it!!! Obviously, I bought it on the spot. Now I have to get it framed... shouldn't be hard for me to do.
I had a quick look at the back of the ceramic pictures... already got hanging bits, so I don't even have to frame it. Awesome.
4.45 pm: I'm just home from the supermarket.
Stew just arrived home from work, and once he's changed I'll be dropping him off at the pub, coming home to put the groceries away, then going over to the kids for a visit.
Then... pub and hot chips for me, before bringing me tipsy man home.
Snores galore tonight for sure! 😂😅😆
8.45 pm: Surprise, surprise, his nibs is not tipsy! He seems to have been very restrained this evening. Maybe I won't have to listen to him snoring like a train all night after all.
And on that happy note, I'm out of here.
Catch ya tomorrow.
That is very sad. I read your blog every day (although I don't comment much) because I just love to see what is going on. You are always busy, always engaged, and I really appreciate that you do put your life out in the world.
ReplyDeleteI always think that the haters are just exposing how miserable they and their lives are. They feel a little bit of power every time they think they've hurt someone, and safe because they are anonymous. I kind of feel sorry for them, but I am much more sorry for you. It's horrible reading nasty comments, even if you know the bile is really just the commenter saying how much they hate themselves.

ReplyDeleteI didn’t comment again yesterday for obvious reasons. I do think that what I said was taken completely the wrong way. I was a professional nanny for a few years so seeing a child with something plastic over their head did mean I felt I should say something. There was never any suggestion that either you or Bex were not totally in charge and looking after Lily. Bex is an amazing mother! My comment was directed at ‘if’ she did that out of sight with an actual plastic bag. Of course she was in no danger with you there.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading about your life, as do many others and I mostly only ever comment when I have something positive to say. I will tell you if I like what you have done, somewhere you have been or something you have bought. I also try to be constructive and have hopefully helped a few times over the many years we have known each other.
I didn't see your comment yesterday, but I agree. If Lily did do that when know one could see her, it could be dangerous.
DeleteI Love how honest you are in everything you do & say. Plus your crafts etc that you make & do. I say to myself if only I could do that again. Keep up just being you,
ReplyDeleteHi, I enjoy reading your blog and seeing your pictures of New Zealand and your lovely family....and your creative sewing....enjoy your day...Peta
ReplyDeleteI confess your blog is my daily compulsive habit. You and Stew are like family to me and I love you all. And of course I'm a ho for Stews hugs!! 😘 Kj
ReplyDeleteHave a great time at mosaics
ReplyDeleteSome people need to learn the words to let it go 🤦♀️
I have always loved how you shoot from the hip, your direct blunt take no prisoners you are in person the same and it’s refreshing as there are so many fake people today.
ReplyDeleteWhat hurts me is that you cop such negativity from some of your own family.
We as your friends are not and should not feel the need too berate you, you of all people.
Written word is so objective if it read’s condescending then ergo it generally is call it for what it is.
I love hearing about your life and what you do .Some people just carent help themselves they have to be nasty and be critical .New Zealand sounds wonderful .like you I’m a happy crafter
ReplyDeleteThe internet has really made people mean. Especially when they can be anonymous.
ReplyDeleteI just read a LOCAL post about ICE. (the masked immigration officers going around the USA gathering people, mostly brown people, into unmarked vans) Apparently ICE has made it to my small town and hauled all the employees at the 2 Mexican Restaurants off in handcuffs. Anonymous haters on Facebook are singing their praises. It's disgusting.
People will lecture about a child with a thing on her head.
A dog accompanying it's humans on the Pickleball Court (laying down politely in the corner not bothering a soul).
If you ask a question on a public forum 50% of the answers will be sarcastic or even cruel.
If you write it, someone will have an issue with it.
I am glad your comments are overwhelmingly positive.
Great post Chris. I hope I fall into your blog friend category. I read your blog because I like it, simple. You say what you think, share lovely stories and photos of your life and family. I just love your creative flair too. If I comment I try to use language that doesn’t offend and try to be mindful the written word doesn’t always reflect what the author is trying to say. We live in different times now and wonder if perhaps it’s too easy to be a keyboard warrior than speaking face to face. In a world where we can be anything, be kind! I try to live my life this way. Chris, if any comment I make makes you unhappy, I’m all for you telling me. Have a lovely chat at mosaics And a great day 😊
ReplyDeleteI have read your blog since the old WW forum days, watched the kids grow up, then the grandkids arriving. Lots of us used to blog back then, I don't anymore due to stickybeak family members who don't have my best interests at heart. I don't understand people who are nasty. Also a kid can put a bag over their head any time, it wasn't anywhere near Lily's nose or mouth, it was just like a hat plastic or not.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog and you.
ReplyDeleteI read 2 blogs every day. Yours is one of course!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and we're mates 🩷 Have been for yonks xx
ReplyDeleteBeen reading your blog for years, love “seeing” a little bit of your day to day life.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the pub and those hot chippies. ☺️
It’s funny how things become a daily routine reading your blog and the weather is my morning routine while having my coffee.

Definitely a friend, just not always a commenter. I guess that some people are just triggered into making white noise and I think you should take it all in a grain of salt and use your prerogative not to publish the comment. At the end of the day it’s your choice and you should be yourself. I also reckon that sometimes people only blog the ‘good stuff’ all niceties, and don’t want to portray a less than perfect life, whereas you are warts and all and that is what makes you you! If you get what I mean. ❤️Margaret
ReplyDeleteYep, I've always blogged 'warts and all'... sometimes I think I should be more circumspect with what I blog about... but then, I wouldn't be ME eh? lol This blog is my 'living' diary in a way. To be looked back on over the coming years by family and friends. Long after I've gone.
