AN END TO IT?

 Could today be the day?

The last day of stripping wallpaper?

It might be!

Steve is coming over this morning to help get the lounge done.  I'm not sure if Bex and the boys are coming too?

Steve will help Stew move the heavy furniture away from the walls for a start.  Then he said he'd help me strip the paper.

Bloody awesome.

BUT, first off, I am heading over to the mall to buy some bubble wrap.  I need it to pack up all my Britto and everything else that's in the china cabinets.

All that stuff is gunna be left packed up for a few months, as once the walls are painted, I'll be getting new carpet put down.

That thought is scary!  I've not narrowed down the carpet yet.  I've not even been into a carpet shop!  And the thought of having to move every single item of furniture off the floors to get the old carpet up and new down?  FUCK... my mind boggles.

And I've been told ripping up old carpet is a very dusty job.  Ikkkk.  I'm not looking forward to that one iota.

But, it's something that's been on the 'to do' list since we first bought the house.  And once it's done we can relax, and live in the house knowing there's nothing else needing fixing.  (fingers crossed!)

So, today will be another busy day!  Time to get up and get moving.

10.35 am:  And with Stew's help I've managed to get both china cabinets emptied and the contents put in the garage.
Next will be putting the china cabinets in the garage too.  They can stay there until the painting and carpets are done.

Steve and Bex just arrived... so ONWARD!

ABOVE:  And with the three of us working on the last walls, we have FINISHED!  No more wall paper stripping EVER.

And yes, I will be getting a professional in to do all the prep and painting.  I am DONE.

We just ordered Pizzas for lunch.  And I'm gunna have some.  I'm starving.

4.45 pm:  Lunch was lovely!  I tried onion rings from Pizza Hutt for the very first time.  OMG!  I'd have them and not even bother with the pizza next time. 😂😅😆

Stew and I have had the most lazy afternoon, just sitting watching TV.  The weather is atrocious out there!  Squally rain, and cold as F.

There is no way I will be having dinner... lunch was quite enough.  Stew will probably have some left overs from last night.

Stew is eating a cold sausage beside me... the smell is making me want to throw up!  Clearly I'm not hungry.  lol
Time to sign off for the day.
Catch ya tomorrow.

  1. When we got our new carpet they took the carpet out and took it away. There was not way I was doing that and it didn't cost much. We got carpet that doesn't 'track' much ie, dense, shorter pile. I'd noticed a lot of carpets track badly and didn't want that. I also got synthetic as it looks great and doesn't fade, another important thing for me. Don't go too light either, remember carpet will always look lighter once down. It cost $5,500 to do our entire house using quality carpet and top quality underlay.

  2. Normally the carpet is uplifted by the installation guys. Also they do different areas over a couple (or more) days so you can move furniture into other rooms. Good luck!

    1. I must pick your brains for what's best to use! Synthetic or wool? Cut pile or loop, or a combo?

  3. Carpet, too?
Maybe you should paint first - so you don't have to worry about the carpet. Get this all done at once. Go to the carpet store and get quotes! What fun!

  4. Ain't family grand? You are blessed with all the help you get.
I have had both synthetic and wool. In the past wool was superior (synthetic was cheap and nasty and created static and just looked naff) but now the newer synthetics are amazing. I would never go back to wool. The one we put down in our bedroom has been treated with something and is guaranteed not to stain. It is lush and warm and hardly tracks at all. I love it.

  5. Wow great job getting all the wall paper off. You deserve your pizza. It’s only one meal! As long as you compensate with your other meals I’m sure it’s fine. Checking blood glucose levels will be your indicator

  9. Chris, have you considered laminate floorboards. They would look amazing. So much easier to maintain and keep clean then carpets. Just a thought

    1. WE had laminate flooring in our Auckland house. After two floods, necessitating the total removal of all the flooring, we switched to tiles and carpet. Here in the Waikato it is much colder, so carpet is the only way to go! And after our experiences with laminate, we would never go back to laminate.

We only have carpet in one room, it is the TV room, it is an industrial grade wool carpet looks as good as new 10 years old!! No fading and the room gets heaps of light. Synthetic carpet is very static.

  12. I am awful shopping for flooring. After having problems with moths we now go for polypropylene carpet. We also have dogs, but ours are terriers and they shed a lot. Therefore we have cut pile, we were advised to have this before as dog fur is hard to vacuum out of loop. I have no idea if that is correct but I can think that it is as it could get wrapped around?

  14. Yeah for getting the paper all done! I think usually the carpet places will take up the old carpet too?
