I'm going to let this little video tell you about Denim:
So, there ya have it.
We have a crazy dog... a crazy, deaf dog!
It took me about 3 days, once we picked Denim up and brought her home from Auckland, to start wondering about her hearing. I didn't want to believe it at first, but it became more and more apparent she couldn't hear very well at all.
I wonder how we are going to train her? Can you even train a deaf dog?
Let's not forget, she doesn't even want to walk on a lead, let alone learn to sit/stay/stop/come! She's either crazy or there's something wrong in her head, maybe connected to her hearing?
I will be talking to our vet about her soon.
What a challenge she is going to be! But fun too... cos she has such a funny personality.
So, it's New Year's Eve tonight, and as per usual, we don't have any plans at all.
*sigh*
Sad old farts we are... but ya get to our age and seriously, it really is just another day.
Today I will be sewing again... unless something else comes up more interesting!
AND... just like that, after sleeping on it for a few days, I have changed my mind about getting 'Eat To Live' tattooed on my finger!
I will instead be getting it engraved on a piece of jewellery. What piece of jewellery is yet to be decided.
Having it written on my finger in 'normal' ink for the past few days made me realise it wasn't what I wanted, and Stew felt the same way, but wasn't going to say anything to me! He just hoped I would change my mind eventually. Freakin' man!
I would have canned the idea immediately if I'd know he wasn't keen on it!
ONWARD...
Since getting outta bed I've been cutting fabric for mug rugs, and am finally starting to sew the various bits together.
And that's it! Seriously, I've done nothing else all day.
It's a gorgeous day outside, so later on I might lie out in the sun for a little while, work on my tan.
We don't have any plans for tonight... 'just another day' scenario here.
So clearly I've been busy all day, sewing mostly.
Very quiet here. I hope everyone is having an awesome New Year's Eve. Be safe. Catch ya in 2018!
I was not fond of the tattoo - but I REALLY like the Jewelry idea! a lot. I am sorry about Denim. You can teach a dog sign commands. I actually use a hand and verbal command for our dogs. Google signs for dogs. Sit, stay, lie down, ect....
ReplyDeleteIt was also a GREAT idea to write the tattoo on your hand. That should be a prerequisite for ANY tattoo. To prevent any impulsive decisions that lead to regrets. I know your tattoo is not "impulsive" I am referring to people everywhere who get drunken/and/or unplanned tats.
ReplyDeleteAwww Denim, bless her! You can train deaf dogs using hand signals, my friend has a totally deaf Border Collie she has trained beautifully. My own dogs, although hearing, also respond to hand signals for sit, stay, drop, etc.....except Ruby. She does whatever she likes!!
ReplyDeleteHi I think your idea about not getting the tattoo and the jewelry thing is a good idea..I hate it when I am on a diet (which is all the time lol) and people comment on what I am eating so I don't say anymore. If it was tattooed I would never be able to be private. lol

An ID bracelet would be nice, gold, maybe a bit of bling on it!! It will be interesting to hear what the vet has to say about Denim. Will you be having a conversation with the breeder?
ReplyDeleteNo I won't be talking with the 'breeder' about Denim's deafness. It is not her fault at all... and I doubt she was aware of the deafness either. I only picked it up once we got her home and spent more time with her alone... not with all her litter mates.
DeleteAll the pups were given a clean bill of health with the vet before being sold, and 'J' sold them in good faith. You cannot tell if a puppy is going to develop medical issues down the line, it's just luck of the draw. It could happen to any pup or animal you buy. As long as you sell in good faith, there is no come back. I have been in this position myself as a breeder and know the in's and out's of it.
I'm not suggesting that 'J' didn't sell them in good faith. It would be interesting to know if any of the other puppies have the same issue.
DeleteJewellery is a great idea. I have a bracelet with “breathe” inscribed on it as a reminder to slow down and take deep breaths and centre myself when needed.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you changed your mind :) My brother's German Shepherd would chase her shadow and the reflection from her tags on the ground. She'd also run around the pool barking at the kids when they were swimming. Other than that she was fine lol
ReplyDeleteAww Denim, bless her. Interestedto hear what the vet says when you visit. Jewelry sounds a great idea, whatever you choose. Congrats on the water drinking, keep it up.
ReplyDeleteI have a deaf cat and he does just fine. Denim will adjust with very little problem.
ReplyDeleteWe don’t usually do much NYE except watch the fireworks on our forshore. Hubby is working this weekend which means getting up at 5am tomorrow. His job finishes up in a matter of days. Yep great Christmas present “oh we didn’t get the contract but apply for a job with the new company with a pay cut of 50%”

Happy New Year, Chris to you and that gorgeous family of yours. I am so glad Denim came to you ... her outcome may not have been so happy with another person. Here's to an amazing 2018 to you and all your readers. xxxxx
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!! Denim certainly makes up for her lack of hearing with her personality. She will keep you all very amused. My niece's cat is completely deaf & has a great life :-)
