Well... today we leave Whangarei, and head further up north to Paihia.
We have been up there once before, but not to stay.
We are spending three days in Paihia, as we want to do a day trip to the very top of the North Island... to Cape Reinga.
We should be able to do it in a day fairly comfortably.
While here in Paihia, we will be visiting Lacy and Jono too. They live in a small town not too far from here.
ONWARD...
***SQEALS***We just booked a Bay of Islands CRUISE ... GOING ON WEDNESDAY!!! So excited.
2.43 pm: and it's been an excellent day so far.
It was a short drive from Whangarei to Paihia.
Once here, we had a quick look around the shops, mostly tourist type shops as expected.
But we did find one or two that we will be visiting again on Thursday, before we leave for home.
ABOVE: One to visit again... FULL of nautical stuff!
We booked an island cruise... which I'm very excited about.
ABOVE: It was the first thing I saw and did upon our arrival here!
After that, we had a wander around the wharf too...
ABOVE: It is just so beautiful here!
ABOVE: Even the pedestrian crossings are cute! I love how they have used marine rope and piles.
For lunch we decided to head over to where Lacy lives and see her and Jono.
We spent a lovely couple of hours with them, then came back to Paihia.
ABOVE: Lacy and Misha, in front of an old pump house... which will end up at my house eventually!
I might even turn it into a chook house! Yep... chook house. Ya never know what I might do! lol
ABOVE: As we were leaving, I spied some old low fencing... MINE! MINE! And bless him, Jono said 'Yep, you can have it!"
It's funky... and I'm sure I can find something to do with it.
We will be popping back to snaffle it (and see them too) on our way home again. *smiles*
ABOVE: Lacy and Jono... very happy flatmates.
It's now almost 3 pm, and Stew has suggested we go for a walk and eat Movenpik ice cream!
Who am I to say no???
Sooo... ice cream for afternoon tea! Then we had a bit of a drive around, then back to the motel cos I was bloody cold. Funny that, it is winter eh?
Dinner tonight is whatever the man brings home from 'town'. lol
I love Paihia ❤️. When we did the trip to the Cape we went on a tour bus which took us to a few other places as well including the Kauri museum, 90 mile beach and a lovely secluded beach on he way back. We also got to sled down the sand dunes at the beach. Have an awesome day 😀
ReplyDeleteGood Morning :) hope you have a nice day in Paihia today, the wether is lovely so far xx #2
ReplyDeleteDrive safely
ReplyDeleteHave a awesome time up there every things going smoothly at this end 😊
ReplyDeleteIf you can, try to do the 4x4 trip on 90 mile beach - it's just beautiful !!! So glad to read you are having such a good time !!!!
ReplyDeleteGo over to Russell it's a cute little town. If you want to go up Flagstaff hill (with the flagpole Hone Heke cut down) take the car ferry from Opua, as it's a long climb without the car!
ReplyDeleteWe are planning on getting off the Tour boat in Russell and having a look around on foot, on Wednesday afternoon.
DeleteGlad you're enjoying yourselves! I'm back at work at the Treaty Grounds on Wednesday, let me know if you're around for a catch up?
ReplyDeleteWill do chick.
DeleteAhhh beautiful Paihia!
ReplyDeleteWe spent a week of our honeymoon driving from Auckland to The Bay of Islands, such beautiful memories of such a amazing place!
We will return one day and hopefully say hi!
We recently spent a day in Paihia - it was our only stop on our cruise to Sydney. There was a craft market in the square across from the wharf which had some great stuff. It's a beautiful place for sure - have fun!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos you could retire there maybe lol....
