And it's a very crucial day for little Flint.
If he doesn't pick up today he will sadly be going to spend his doggy days with his sister Sage in Puppy Heaven.
ABOVE: photos taken last night.
I've been syringe feeding Flint every 90 minutes since 5pm yesterday. He's been doing really well too... happily taking the formula and electrolyte solution. He's also been nursing on Coco too.
I don't want to get excited and say he's turned the corner, but my gut is telling me he's really fighting to stay here with us.
I've managed to grab two little cat naps in between the feedings, AND I've drunk a huge cup of coffee! I hate coffee, but it has helped keep me awake! AND I'm gunna have another one soon.
Oh and Steve was right... Nescafe Classic Coffee tastes like shit. He told our Visitor that when she bought a big tin of it for our household! lol
Stew got home just in time to give her a cuddle before Lacy took her home.
Today is going to be a repeat of yesterday unfortunately. I am willing our little Flint to do well.
After today the puppy's ears should start to open, so they will be able to finally hear all the commotion in this house! And one more week till they open their eyes. That is when they start looking even cuter... if that is possible!
ONWARD...
ABOVE: I'm so happy Coco has shown no signs of rejecting little Flint. She's still toileting him, and trying to 'nest' beside him. She is the most amazing little mother. I love her so much.
Flint is being a little bugger. He keeps crawling out of Intensive Care and joining his siblings in the Nursery! Ruby is leading him astray I think...
Ruby is our biggest puppy and she totally dwarf's Flint!
5.44 am and the birds are singing. And I actually feel OK right now. I've been reading a few blogs during the night, it's been great catching up on what ya all have been up to.
7 am: and I'm off to bed for a couple of hours, Bex is taking over nursing Flint.
I made the heart breaking decision to have Flint put to sleep this morning. He was no better, and was going downhill fast.
While I am heartbroken, I know I did EVERYTHING I could to save him. He is now going to join little Sage and romp around Puppy Heaven with her.
Our Vet (our usual one) said he was a 'Swimmer Puppy' as his chest/ribs were flat, which is incompatible with life. That is why he got Pneumonia too.
Please no one send me chocolates! (Raina *smiles*)
It is ONWARD with 5 healthy, happy puppies from here on.
Gayle, Jenna and Peppa: thank you so much for the gorgeous little pail of flowers. I know you thought little Flint was still alive when you sent them. Now we will put them beside him until he is buried tonight when Stew, Steve and the kids are home.
In light of yet another nasty comment, which I WILL NOT publish, I have taken down the last part of this post.
I don't want to incite more hate.
So, I change me mind (it happens). I will publish the ANON comments, but I don't want ANYONE to have a go back at him/her PLEASE. Just read and reflect on how we are all different, and see things differently. I don't want a slag fest OK??
1.Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "HANG IN THERE WEE FLINT":
oh for gawd sake! Get over it girl! this is life, you win some, you loose some.
2.Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "DO OR DIE DAY":
Although you may write on and on about how it will be so sad if Flint doesn't make it, the bottom line is that breeding puppies is a business to you, and Flint's death is nothing more than a loss of income. You're not breeding Coco because she enjoys it, nor are you having puppies to keep in your home as pets. You're just adding more mongrel puppies to a world that doesn't have enough homes for the dogs that already exist. You can call me all the names you want on your blog, but you know what I say is the truth.

I am now off to have a sleep.
Sleep didn't happen. So now I wait for the kids to get home and tell them about Flint. Hopefully they take it ok. Last year Griffin cried for hours after Sage died. But I think he's just that bit more grown up now, and he did know when he left for school that Flint might die.
Fingers crossed it goes well.
I've made a lovely little burial box for Flint.
Gayle, Jenna and Peppa: those gorgeous flowers in the darling little bucket are from you. THANK YOU again.
Ya. Finally had a couple of hours sleep. I shall catch up properly over the weekend for sure.
Bex has made some really yummy filo pastry parcels with chicken/tomato/cheese & mushroom inside, with a side salad.
Should be tasty.
End of Day: early tonight as I'm going to have dinner and a glass of wine and just chill out.
I want to relax for a while.
THANK YOU so much for the love and support you have shown towards us.
I know he was just a little puppy, one of billions born every year, but he was OUR little baby.
No matter why we bred him and his siblings, we cared for him.
nite nite
I love flints' little intensive care unit. So sweet. Hope he recovers and can move back into the nursery in a big hurry. Come on flint. Nobody could love a pup more then Diet Coke Rocks! You have everything you need to get better. Loving moms in the doggy and human world, antibiotics, a good doctor, a lovely warm place to sleep, nutritious food. ... You must get better!
ReplyDeleteYeah he made it over night! Glad he seems to be doing better.
ReplyDeleteChris.. It has to be said... you are one amazing lady with such a big heart. Myself and the ladies I work with all have our fingers crossed that Flint makes it through this.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't like coffee, especially don't drink that nasty instant! Getcha some good Costa Rican coffee, make it nice and strong, and use a package of chocolate mild powder with it. (Use coffee where it calls for hot water) You'll love it.
ReplyDeleteAfter losing 3 out of 5 baby chicks, one of which took her last breath in my hand, I sympathize with what you are going through right now. Remember, God needs puppies in heaven too!
God has Sage he dosnt need Flint yet :)
DeleteAw sweet mumma coco, bless her, she's such a caring loving little mum and flint, wow, he is indeed a fighter and our get well wishes are all spurring him on
ReplyDeleteLook after yourself too Chris, rest when u can, drink plenty fluids and lots of healthy snacks to keep you alert through this really testing time.
Hugs and kisses to all the little pups but especially Flint & coco.
Your puppy babies are so precious! I hope little runt makes it! With the ears opening, maybe the little barks will start too! :) hugs~
ReplyDeleteAwwwwww it is so heartwarming to see all the love care and effort Flint and Coco so cute together I am at work today and will be sending long distance prayers to a little puppy. The video of Dante crying for Grandad so cute, but Keera and Dante cuddling Grandad special.
ReplyDeleteGlad flint had a good night fingers crossed he has a better day thinking of you
ReplyDeleteYeah another day for our little Flint. Come on boy willing you to make it. That is so classic the intensive care unit Do you need to see the Vet again today with him for a check up (not a check out) Well done Chris for your love and same to Coco xxx
ReplyDeleteYEAH!! YEAH!!! Rooting for little Flint! You are a great puppy caregiver, Chris. I'm so glad to see Flint motivated to hang out with Ruby and his siblings. :)
ReplyDeletePS I wondered where you got all that time to read my blog last night. You were round-the-clock caregiving, bless you.
Yea Flint i knew you were a fighter, keep it up little one xo

ReplyDeletedo anything to help one of our animals family if anything were to happen. They are a big part of our lives.
To anonymous, have a heart, honestly we all know you win some you loose some but it doesn't make it any easier.
YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER OFF NOT COMMENTING THEN BEING SO CRUEL AND NASTY!!!!!

Hi Chris. I am so sorry to hear the sad news about Flint. You and Coco did everything you could and sadly he was needed elsewhere. Toby the Wonder dog and I send you a huge hug. Love Karen oxoxoxox
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about Flint and know you did all you could. Sometimes nature takes it out if your control. Big hugs. Xx
ReplyDeletesorry about Flint. I know how hard it is to have to make that decision. I dont know what you had to remove, but if someone was nasty to you over this, they should be ashamed of themselves. People can be so cruel sometimes. My thoughts are with you Chris, hang in there!
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, You gave little Flint such a precious gift of a few more days knowing the love of his doggy and human mamas. You have a big heart. I hope you'll get some rest soon. Mary (Penny's friend).
ReplyDeleteRIP Flint.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you've had some shitty comments..............:0(
So sorry Chris...
ReplyDeleteOh no bugger bugger bugger Thanks for trying you guys What will be will be I guess sniff RIP Flint

Sorry to hear about Flint. I work at a vet's, and unfortunately we do see quite a few situations where the runt doesn't make it. (((((Hugs))))
ReplyDeleteThinking of ya Hun !!! Well said lacy !!!
ReplyDeleteMay I please just put this out there....not having a go at 'anyone' just would like something noted....
ReplyDeleteYes Ma is breeding off Coco to get a wee bit off pocket money...but that really is No one else's business apart from her's and her immediate Family's...
Next...they stay in the 'Family Home' for a good few month's and in that time they are cared for and loved just as much as the other pets and family members, given blankets with there own names on and a special 'care' bag of there treats and favorite toys and so on...photos and so on, before they are given to there New Loving Home and these Home's are dam well made sure that they are Good Loving Home's with Humans that will love them and care for them as much as my Ma and family have...
Next...They are Not Mongrel Puppies
Next...They have a few times wanted to keep a puppy as they are so much loved by my family but with two dogs already....
Next...they are not just handed off and that be it....oh no...my Ma gets to know the new Human owners and become's good friends and keeps in contact and gets photos and letters and so on of her Grandpuppy's they have even been brought back to visit with there Mummy Coco and Human Mummy and ect witch my Ma absolutely loves and yup the visits go on her blog....
So there you have it....
Thank You
Lacy Harvey Daughter Of My Ma Chris Harvey
Love Ya Ma xo
R.I.P Flint xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
Again well said Lacy!!! You're on a roll today!! Haha!
DeleteI think your mum and the way she looks after the puppies and makes blankets and everything is amazing! As someone down
further said for every asshole out there, there are 100's of people that love and support Chris.
By the way that little poppet of yours is a wee darling :) I love seeing her photos, such a happy girl.
Kym/Australia
I agree Lacy - Chris does not run a "puppy mill" - if you don't know what that is, it's a place where they purely breed puppies to sell with no love or care. I know the income from the puppies is appreciated but clearly after vet's bills and other stuff the "profit" is well earned!
DeleteI think it is normal to have a puppy not survive but that does not take away from the grief of a living creature dying. Let's just hope the five siblings all thrive! Oh and about these being "mongrels" ?? They are beautiful, family pets. I can tell you a few stories about real mongrel dogs..!!!
Awwwwwww I have been thinking about you and Flint all day get home and see your news I am sad for you and know you did try your absolute best, I hope you Stew and your every growing family have a nice weekend all together, Kids and wriggly puppies that will help ( I know I needn't not say puppies) but all those other little warm wriggly bodies will keep you busy. xo
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about wee Flint. I know you did everything you could for him. I know you care for each & every one of those puppies and it breaks your heart to lose one. You are also careful about which homes they go to, this is a labour of love NOT a commercial operation. I hope the kids are ok, because a) it was a possibility they knew might happen & b) they experienced the loss of Sage last year so know what to expect. Big hugs.
ReplyDeleteNow you can get some well earned sleep. Poor little Flint. I so hoped your loving care would do the trick but obviously there was more to this than simply being the smallest in the litter.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of your whole family and how there will be a mixture of sadness and joy asyou watch Coco with ther other puppies.
Blessings
awww so sorry to see he didn't make it :( People are so heartless. Someone always has to be nasty and leave negative comments. Just remember for every asshole out there there's 100's of people that love and support you.
ReplyDelete:( Poor little fella! RIP
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear that Chris. You did all you could xxx
ReplyDeleteSorry about Flint. We know you loved him xx Surrey
ReplyDeleteAw Chris, I'm so sorry dear little Flint didn't make it. I understand your feelings, I was a mess when I lost a baby bird years ago. I'd tried so hard to keep it alive. Hugs to you. Sleep well.
ReplyDeleteHaving trouble posting on your blog from my iPad.
ReplyDeleteI am so very sad for you and all your family. Does Coco realise Flint is missing I wonder.
I hope all 5 remaining pups continue to thrive
Really sorry to hear about Flint Chris and am thinking of you all. Flint was very lucky to be born into a family who cared so much - it has definitely been a labour of love for you - I'm just sorry that wee Flint was too weak to make the recovery needed. Much love to you all xx
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the loss of Flint. Take care.
ReplyDeleteSorry, to hear about Flint. I was really rooting for the little guy.
ReplyDeleteI don't care if breeding puppies is a business for you or not. You love those little guys. Does this person say such mean things to people who provide child care? That's beyond polite disagreement and into harassment and bullying. :/
