BLOODY PHONE!

My lovely, almost new phone is on the blink!
I am not getting texts sent to me! Me phone is SILENT... it's bloody awful!

So, after patchwork class today I will have to go to a telecom shop to find out why. Grrrrrr.

It's just NOT ON... 90% of the 'communication' with my kids is via texts... funny how you come to rely on them. Texts used to drive me NUTS, but now that I understand 'text' speak they are fine. I hope there isn't too much wrong with my phone, and it can be fixed.
And because I have nothing better to put up so far today...
Here's Teddy, curled up on me lap last night, on MY blankie.

I just did something I never thought I would do! I opened my front door, kissed the kids goodbye... and let them walk to school ON THEIR OWN! I have never done that before!

I decided I was being too overprotective and should give them the chance to take responsibility for themselves a bit! It felt awful... and the moment they were out of sight I jumped in the car and followed them.... so I could see them get to school safely! I did not let them see me though... I want them to feel like they did it all by themselves. MOMENTOUS for me.

ONWARD! yaaa my phone is fixed! The lady in the shop reset it... and it works again.

Class today was OK... one of the ladies brought in a quilt in the style we are doing next term:

ABOVE: It's called 'Shattered Nine Patch'... and she used New Zealand materials to do it. It's really lovely.

It's a gloriously sunny, warm day today... makes you feel like summer is almost here! Lifts the mood somewhat too. I'm off to get the kids shortly... am thinking of letting them walk home alone soon too! (our house is only about a 4-5 minute walk from school)

End of Day: normal sort of evening... wanted to do some sewing, but just couldn't be arsed! Lazy tart I am. nite nite.

  1. Oh hope there is nothing serious wrong with your phone! Yes it is amazing how much we have come to rely on them as a means of communication with family and friends.
Hope you have a good day :)

  3. I've always thought that is one of the hardest parts of raising children-when to let them do things by themselves. It is a hard balance between being protective and letting them learn that they are capable of doing it on their own. You did it just like I'm sure I did many times.

  4. Big Step, Chris!!! Kudos to you! I'm such a control freak, or is it a distrusting momma? I made sure they either got on the bus, or dropped off and I WATCHED THEM walk into the school doors.

I'll be you made them feel very "big."

    Good luck with the phone!

  6. Bloody phone. It's terrible how dependent we have become on technology, isn't it?

Yay for the kids walking to school. It's a huge step but I bet they felt so grown up. And good on you for not letting them see you. Now the next step is to kiss them goodbye, CLOSE the front door and sit down and have a coffee!

    Enjoy patchwork.

  7. How far is it to school? If you are not comfortable with this an alternative would be to walk them part the way and then less each day. Good on them - heck I was getting a bus to school all by myself when I was 5!! How times change huh?

  9. I have never let my kids walk to school either. There are lots of kids in my area that do walk, I just can't bring myself to let them go. How long are you going to follow them for? Hope your phone gets fixed.

  10. chris!!! good for you. i know exactly how you feel. i have sneakily ridden my bike while i let my 10 year old walk home "by herself".
ha ha. if she only knew. i secretly read all of her texts and notes from her girlfriends too...just to be safe.

  11. it is very hard to let go when they are young. but, it's also good for them to walk to school by themselves. Mine used to, but jacked up till we got the dog, now Fluffy walks her to school with the dog in tow - gives the dog a walk too. She refuses to walk by herself if he has to stay back at work. why? too lazy!

    Enjoy it while you can!

And doesn't Teddy look lovely cuddled up in your blanket? he is such a love!

Congrats to B and G for doing it on their own! :]

  13. It is always hard letting the kids off by themselves. It is hard to belive we walked to school pretty much from day one & so did almost everyone.

I bet they felt really grown up & responsible :-)

  14. You are so funny, following your midgets to school. It will do wonders for their independence and they will be so proud that you trust them.

  15. O Teddie is so beautiful!

I don't think you Mom's are being overprotective - I think you gals are wonderful. There is so much bad treatment of children that when I hear you Mom's talk about caring I want to tell you how wonderful you are!

  17. Shattered nine patch is gorgeous Chris. I've seen a few of them now and the photo has just given me an idea of how to make my cushion covers. Yes I've been procrastinating... As for begging for comments you tart haha...

Take care. Keep up having fun. Luv K

  18. So Teddy enjoys a nice nap on your blanket like my kitties like a nice nap on mine! Funny, isn't it?

Good job on letting the kiddos walk. The following in the car could be a little much but . . . on the first day it is certainly understandable. How did they feel about walking to school alone?

  19. I haven't had axess to my phone for two months now. DD took it upon her arrival and I passed it to her hubby while she's gone ahead of us. Got a call yesterday said the darn thing is broken the screen is half gone. Same thing happened to it last summer and they gave me a refurbished model. Told DSIL took it to the dealer they that this one has water damage and is not cover. Will work on getting it back in order next week. Looks like you had a good weekend. So you were distrubed by the idiot at work. It's hard letting go of the kids these days too many weirdo's on the lose. Love all the postings of the quilts. Have a good day.
