We went to Singapore to visit my little brother.... and see a bit of the world.
While we were there, we visited an Indonesian island called Batam.
I bought two pieces of batik there... with a view to framing them one day.
I NEVER DID.
Two days ago I found those two pieces of material hidden away in the laundry cupboard.
One is just so amazing and beautiful I have decided to finally do something with it.
I am going to quilt it and then frame it.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IT? ... (bearing in mind I havn't done anything to it yet)
There is some really lovely detail in it... and gold thread/paint.... I can't wait to start on it.
I SHOULD get on with the Star Quilt that is ready to be sewn together.... I SHOULD..... but maybe I will do the Batam Batik first! *smiles*
Until then... I will just lie here and read a book... ( and eat NO chocolate)Ahhhh.. we went out ... over to the North Shore of Auckland:
ABOVE: Heading for the harbour bridge....
Following a pretty pink car..... up.....
And up......
And over.... and in the distance, Takapuna on the North Shore.
ABOVE: we stopped and had a drool..... *sigh*... then we hit the shops and had a good look around Milford Mall, then Albany Mall.... where I bought:
My new handbag! Tis a black backpack type one... it leaves one's hands free for shopping! LOVED IT... deserved it. Got it.
Then we headed back over the bridge...
past the top of Queen Street (Main City Street)....
On the motorway heading home, a glimpse of the Grafton Bridge being repaired.... then home. Errrrr.... some of the photos are kinda boring... but too bad! Couldn't find a beach on the motorway...
Am now going to chill out and read a book as planned!
End of Day: been chillin out! Watched some Telly... going to read in bed now. Neat. nite nite.
I'd say that you absolutely need a break and you deserve to lay there and read....you go girl!
ReplyDeleteThat is GORGEOUS fabric!!!!! I ♥ it!
ooooooooooooooo.....that is GORGEOUS.
ReplyDeleteYou read and I'll eat chocolate for both of us. 8)
Heyyyy...I like that pic of you!
ReplyDeleteLove the batik - I spent some time on the Perhentian Islands (links below to you can see where I mean) when I lived in Malaysia and made my own huge Batik wall hanging...if I ever have kids I'll hang it in their room. Way too massive to frame!

ReplyDeleteI have a piece of silk, that my ex-M-I-L bought me back from Singapore, about 20 years ago. I think there is around 3 yards of it. Have never decided what I want to make with it ..

ReplyDeleteLOVE the new bag. Very well done! I thought I would have a chocolate free Easter but for the first time in 14 years, my other half bought me an egg! And Jr Her always shares with me, so I gotta love her.
ReplyDeleteBUT, I have only had a few small pieces.
Excellent work, and as always, love the photos. Specially the one of you! You are looking great!
Enjoy the rest of your break, and keep up the good work!

ReplyDeleteThe batik is beautiful! Can't wait to see it once it's quilted.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the no chocolate. That's tough to do! And yes you did deserve the cute handbag. Something like that would be really helpful while shopping.
