RIGHT... MASSES OF PHOTOS TODAY...

Photos from yesterday, just going to bang them on here.... with not too many words.

 ABOVE:  YEAH YEAH, MUCH EASIER.

ABOVE:  Ahh Haa... IT'S ALLEN AND MELISSA.
SORRY FOR TAKING A PHOTO OF YOU IN YA PJ'S ALLEN!

Sunday:  really will be a day of rest around here.  I'm thinking of getting a little sewing done while Keera's asleep at midday.

Apart from that, who knows?

ONWARD...

HELLO!  I've been preoccupied all day!  Did some sewing, watched some telly, and now Kelly is straightening me hair.  Kelly and Rena are here for the day, leaving after dinner...

ABOVE:  Steve is cooking ravioli from scratch, he's putting beef/herb and garlic in them.
The girls are keeping themselves amused too.
Bex showed Kelly the basic steps of crochet.
Let's see how well she goes at home!
You Tube has a ga-zillion tutorials, so I'm sure she will master it.

I have also been reading a bit more about my camera.  I'm hoping to actually get time to watch the DVD's it came with too.
I have found though, that when I think I can devote a few hours to it, something else always comes along to stuff up me plans.

FROGGY:  my main concerns right now are how do I get it to focus over a broad area, not just on the first 'thing' or 'person' in front of me?
AND how do I get videos to not be SO SHAKY?

ABOVE:  the little footstool with a covering over it now.  I think it's cute as.  So is Dante.

ABOVE:  Sound asleep for ... oh ... about 5 minutes.

FROGGY:  thanks, I'm off to check the book!

End of Day:  a busy day!  Lots going on.  Keera was a delight to have, she's such a happy wee girl.
Time to wind down for the evening, I'm kinda tired ... didn't get to bed till well after midnight last night (my own fault).

GRANDKIDS TODAY

First up for the day... pick up Miss Keera.
Then pack the car and head off to Hamilton... for Rena's 6th Birthday.

I can't wait to see what she thinks of her Ballerina Wall Hanging!

As the birthday party is being held at an indoor rock climbing place, it is bound to be fun for the kids.

Maybe not so much for us grown ups!  I have a feeling Brylee and Griffin will be having fun, while Stew, Keera and I slip away for a quiet one on one time with Keera.  Maybe we will go and feed the ducks?

ABOVE:  Dinner time for Dante.

ABOVE: I'm going to cover that little $2 footstool I got from Hospice Shop, and match it to the fabric on the chair.  The headrest on the chair is done.

ABOVE: Dante helping me figure out what fabric to use on the stool.

ABOVE:  self explanatory really.

Say 'THANK YOU', cos I got some photos of Steve with his underpants pulled up in the extreme... from the back.  Lots of butt showing!  I deemed them just a bit too risque to be put on here!
Sometimes I wonder about our Steve...

Ok... time to go and make a start on the day.
Sadly Steve has to work today, and Bex is staying home with Dante.  I think they are going to Hamilton next weekend.

ONWARD...

ABOVE:  Miss Muppet is IN DA HOUSE.  How cute are her boots!

Oh by the way, if I haven't already said it ... I am in love with McDREAMY! He's a dream to use VERY USER FRIENDLY.

We are now in Hamilton, and about to head over to meet up with Kelly and co.

Well... we  arrived in Hamilton with two kids and one toddler.  We are leaving with just the toddler!   Brylee  and Griffin are staying with Kelly and Gordon.  Yaa, it's gunna be a quiet evening.

Well... the party and rock climbing event were just lovely.  Brylee and Griffin were having a blast, so they didn't want to leave.  So... we left them there!

I am going going to show you ONE photo for now... of Rena's Ballerina Wall Hanging...  well it was supposed to be a Wall Hanging... but I kinda got carried away and it became:

A QUILT AND MATCHING PILLOWCASE.

I'm happy to report Rena wasn't disappointed. I am very happy with how they both came out.  And now you can see why it took so long to get that little Ballerina 'wall hanging' done!

End of Day:  a very pleasant day.  Ate far too much crap ... but really don't care.  I will live to diet another day.  *smiles*

A CUTE WEE VIDEO

First up for today, I have a little video taken last night.  Dante was playing in Griffin's bedroom and his Mum and Dad were standing at the door looking in.  Apparently Dante kept saying 'GO AWAY'... very clearly.

So I grabbed my camera in the hope of taping him saying 'Go Away'... but no, rather typically he didn't say it again.

So, I told him to get out of the room, and to Steve and Bex's astonishment, he did.  lol

ABOVE:  video of Dante.

I sent some emails out yesterday to Upholstery firms, asking for a quote to recover the cute little wingback chair.
To my horror I got one quote back last night.   $1000.00 !  OMG... clearly that $30 chair is not getting recovered.   I will just have to try and make a slip cover myself.  Yikes.
Anyone know how?  I'm at a loss.

Maybe I can find a pattern?  Dumm dee dooo...
Off to look on the 'net.

What else do I have planned for the day?  Well... I need to wrap a certain little girl's Birthday Present.  Rena is 6 tomorrow, and Stew, Brylee, Griffin and I are heading off to Hamilton for her Birthday event.  It's rock climbing, in a building.  I have NO intention of trying it!  But Brylee and Griffin will I'm sure.

TODAY marks 15 years since my younger brother Vern was killed in a vehicle vs. logging truck accident in Indonesia.  Time really does fly!  15 years!  Vern didn't live to see any of our Grandchildren born, or his own 5 grandchildren.  That makes me so sad.
My brother Peter died in a very similar accident here in New Zealand, 30 years ago.  How can it be that long ago?
Sometimes it seems like just the other day.

They say 'time heals' and I suppose it does.  But it takes a bloody long time.
Well... after that little stroll down memory lane, I better go and make some new memories, even if they ARE only 'normal and mundane'....

ONWARD...

So, this morning has been a repeat of yesterdays.  Housework.  I've been mucking around doing bits 'n' bobs all morning.  You can't even SEE what I've done, worst luck.
Lots of vacuming.  Cleaning.  bla bla bla.

Now that Bex and Dante are back from Playcenter, we can sit down and have lunch while watching Home and Away's episode from last night.   It's become a 'lunch time tradition'.  *smiles*

You know you are having a bad day when you just feel like screaming and screaming.
Upon more thought, what was here is now gone.  I don't want to open up a can of worms.

Feeling drained.  Did a lot of housework today, and am looking forward to doing a little sewing tonight after dinner.  I can't sew when I'm this ... distracted.

Oh and shit, I still haven't wrapped Rena's present... might just do that right now.

Dinner is prepared, we are having lamb chops with mint sauce and veges for dinner.

End of Day:  after dinner I did some sewing, then Stew and I enjoyed a relaxing spa before bed.

SPOTLIGHT!

Spotlight has a sale on today and Bex wants me to go and get her a King Size Mink Blanket.  She has a Playcenter meeting, so she can't go herself.

I don't mind as I want to pick up a blue seersucker tablecloth I saw there yesterday.  I'm going to use it to cover that cute little wingback chair.

It will only be a throw over cover of course.  I am in the process of making  head and arm rests cloths for it too...

ABOVE:  of course, I found some gorgeous nautical fabric in my stash to use.  The flip side fabric is lovely too.

ABOVE:  there ya go... now it's clear McDreamy is bigger than Lemony.  And so much cuter too.

Right, I better pull finger and get into gear.  Don't want to miss out on one of those Mink Blankets for Bex...

ONWARD...

ABOVE:  the tablecloth I just got.  I have just draped it over the chair for now... I will have a go at making it 'fit' on better after I've done the housework.

Question:  If you were in a carpark, let's say at Spotlight this morning, and you watched a man drive into the Disabled Carpark right beside the door, get out with his wife, and see them both WALK with no obvious disability at all, into the shop ... what would you do?

I kinda walked up to them and said "Just where is your wheelchair?  You are parked in the Disabled Carpark you wanker!"

He totally ignored me, like I wasn't there at all.   I was so angry I wanted to hit him.  What a jerk.

We do have Disabled Permits that are issued to people who need them, and they did not have one.

These two people CLEARLY had NOTHING wrong with them.  If they were disabled, it was in their heads.

I did walk around their car before saying something, as did a couple of other people.
I was not the only person there who was annoyed with them.

Their 'attitude' was obviously screaming 'Whatever' as they sauntered into the shop.

OK... MAYBE the driver was disabled IN SOME WAY... but he didn't display a Disabled Permit, he was ignorant and arrogant when confronted about parking there, and Dee, if I'd thought of that, I would have done it.

Lesson Learnt?  Don't post about this sort of stuff again.

************************************************************

So, I've just completed cleaning the kitchen bench and the extractor fan.  It took me 2.5 hours!  In between, I did 3 loads of washing, hung it out, and ate about 30 jelly beans.

*sigh*  Stress does nasty things to my head.

Funny how one ill advised thing I did can cause so many haters to crawl out of the woodwork!  I have never said or implied that I was PERFECT.  Of course I make mistakes and when I do... I acknowledge them.

ANON:  I'm not going publish your comment, as I consider what I posted was probably not a good idea, and have drawn a line under it, and it is done.  Maybe I was in the wrong, but at least I tried to stand up for what I believed was right.

BLOODY HELL!  I've been sitting here pondering that unpublished Anonymous comment, where he/she said they got a Disability Permit because he/she had two broken toes.

Hmmm... I know for a fact that :

A) You would not be ALLOWED to drive if you had two broken toes, and...

B) You would not be granted a Disability Permit to cover the 6-8 weeks you were unable to walk properly.

How do I know this?  Because I TOO HAVE HAD TWO BROKEN TOES!!!  AND I was banned from driving for 6 weeks.  So clearly,  it would have been pointless applying for a Disability Permit.

(I had surgery to break and straighten two Hammer Lock Toes)... in case you were wondering.  I still have the two metal rods they shoved down the middle of each toe to keep them straight.  Ikkkk.  Wanna see them? ...

ABOVE:  they don't look that big, but OMG, I'd rather give birth to a baby than have those shoved down the middle of me toes for 6 weeks!  Every time I knocked them I was instantly in AGONY.   I shudder remembering how awful it felt, and that is easily 14 years ago now.

JUDITH:  thanks, I will.

AND I have copied and published the Anon comment as I think it came from the same person who left a disparaging comment this morning too.

LYNDA:  good points, I did not know you could get a short term D/Permit.  But back to today, the male driver of that car had no physical disability that I or the other people near me could see.  We were ALL annoyed at his bloody arrogance.

End of Day:  well today's post got a bit side tracked from the 'norm'.  Sorry about that.
I will be a bit more circumspect with what I divulge I think!
Anyway, not too bad a day here in the house.  I got carried away with housework, but that's not a bad thing really.

FEELING A BIT BLAH

After feeling so happy the past couple of days, something always comes along and drags me down again.  So over shit.

One thing... fairly BIG is going down.  Can't really talk about it for now, cos we just don't know how it's going to pan out.
Let's just say, we are MEGA STRESSED OUT right now.

While Stew and I are trying to be optimistic, it's hard when it could have far reaching consequences for us.  I'm so worried.  Being in this bloody position AGAIN, so soon after the same situation played out over several months last year/early this year.   Grrrrrr.

I know I'm not being very open about things here today, but I just wanted you to know I'm DISTRACTED, and feeling very down. *** edited below.

I doubt I will get much done in the sewing room today.  I'm just not feeling in the mood.

Maybe I shall read some blogs today and just reach out and say 'Hi' !

Here's that photo of the 'new to me' wingback chair:

ABOVE:  Steve thinks I paid too much for it.  It cost me $30.  I don't agree.  It's cute.  It just needs a good clean for now.

NOW.  Steve wants me to tell you all WHY I love Rhinos.
So, here goes:

I was visiting the Auckland Zoo a few years ago, and while watching the 3 rhinos, one of them decided to have a poop.  So, out it's rear end came what honestly looked like a perfect 'log'... and as it grew longer out of the rhino's butt, it got heavier one presumes, and a big log would fall off the end of the poop.
It looked so funny!  I laughed my head off.

THEN the other 2 rhinos came over to sniff the steaming pile of poop, but the 'owner' of the poop didn't like that so he charged at them to make them leave his pile alone.  He stood over it and guarded it from them!  That amused me even more.

So, there you have it.  I love Rhino's pooping!
I've been back a couple of times since then and never witnessed that 'event' again.  Sad.

I. KNOW.... I'M. WEIRD.

ONWARD...

Shelved the blog reading idea.  My house needs some serious cleaning/tidying up... and that will keep me mind busy one hopes.

*** Special update with Stew's blessing:

Stew's job is on the line.  His company is Restructuring AGAIN... and his job has been on the line for over 6 months now.  We thought it finally wasn't in February,  when the company said they were NOT going to do the restructure.  So we could finally relax.

But NO.  Monday he got told his job was again on the line due to restructuring... so we are left feeling like our necks are on the chopping block AGAIN.

So damn ANGRY right now.  They have dicked us (and many others in the company) around for 6 months!  6 months of worry and stress.  And now... it all starts again.

I am so fickle today!  Seriously.  I want to do housework.  But just don't feel like it.  I want to read blogs.  Just don't feel like it.
So, maybe I shall sit quietly and watch some mindless TV instead!

I've been down to the sewing room, and done a bit of re-arranging, tidying up.  Looked at me Dresden Plate Quilt which is patiently waiting to be worked on.
BUT... I think I need to practice using the new machine before I attempt such a big and heavy quilt on it.

So, I am going to make a few mug rugs, or placemats or anything smallish for now.

But not right now.  Maybe if me mood picks up later I will.

FROGGY:  {{{HUGS}}}

Been having a very quiet afternoon, doing bugger all in fact.  Watched the TV, had a nap... and now I'm going to make dinner.

I made meatballs and cranberry sauce over rice tonight.  The meatballs were just lovely!  I just dashed a bit of this and that in the mix and baked them in the oven, then drizzled the cranberry sauce over them.  I fully expected them to be tasteless and dry, but they were so moist!  Very happy how they turned out.

End of Day:  a funny old day.  Felt a bit better about things tonight, what will be will be, and nothing I do will change that.  So I'm going to try not to worry myself sick.

LESSON TODAY, AND THE CHAIR

First up today, I'm dashing down to the Hospice Shop in Manukau to pick up that cute as Wingback chair.

Then off to Sylvia Park to find a lovely little gift for Carol at the Sewing Machine Shop.  I want to thank her in some small way for how she pulled out all the stops and got me a new machine to replace Lemony.  She is retiring in a couple of weeks and moving all the way to Stratford, so I want to give her something tomorrow in case I don't see her again.  Would you believe she has worked until she is almost 80!  What a woman.  Impressive.

I am due at the shop for my lesson at 10.30, on how to use McDREAMY.

Last night I did managed to get down into my sewing 'room' after having dinner and watching Masterchef.  I only sewed for about an hour. It took me a good half an hour of reading the instruction manual before I felt confident enough to actually turn McDreamy on!  *laughing at myself*

I had to set the language and time before anything else ... and THAT scared me!  But... I did it, then I threaded the machine and tried out a few stitches.

It's SO EASY!  It has a touch screen for almost EVERYTHING, and if you try and do something 'wrong', the machine makes a noise to indicate you can't do that.  How cool is that!

I can see it won't be hard to work out all it's little do's and don't's.

It is simply a matter of using it and learning along the way.  I LOVE McDREAMY.

FROGGY:  I will certainly pick your brains if/when needed, thanks for offering.

So, I'm not sure when I will be home ... probably around lunchtime?  Then I will be able to show you the little lounge chair.  I want to get it re-covered at some point, cos it's a bit tired looking.  But for now, I'll just make a cover for the place where ya head lies.  And maybe the arm rests.  We will see.  It's not falling to bits, just ... it could be freshened up.

ABOVE:  the few stitches I tried last night.  Bottom Right flower stitch amazed me!  It's so BIG... perfect for sewing down a sashing!  There's already a couple of things I want to ask Carol...

ONWARD...

Wow, I've been away all day!  I had a 3 hour lesson with Carol on McDreamy.  It was wonderful.  Carol was impressed with how much I had already picked up, with watching a few videos on You Tube, and what I did last night.

We had a really lovely time going over stitches and learning a few techniques that I'd not done before.

Upon leaving I spotted some fabric that was on sale,  from stock from their closed Howick shop.  So I grabbed some:

ABOVE:  the fabric.  I also got some buttons and needles there.  On my way home I stopped in at Spotlight to buy some new snips (mini scissors), and got 2 new pair, and some needles, a new rotary blade and some cottons.

In the mall I saw and grabbed a few plastic containers to use in the sewing area... and ummm...

ABOVE:  a small plaster Rhino.  I like rhinos.

ABOVE:  what do ya think of me new buttons?  Freakin' cute as I say.

The afternoon is nearly over and I've done NOTHING around the house!  Sheesh, I better pull finger, I'm cooking dinner tonight.

OH and before anyone asks, the chair is still in the back of me car... it's too cumbersome to haul in myself.  I shall wait for our men to get home and they can bring it in.

You will get to see it tomorrow now.  Hey... it gives me something to blog about tomorrow!

STEVE:  Yes son, tomorrow I will enlighten my readers as to WHY I love Rhinos.  OK?

End of Day:  some really good bits, and towards the end... not so good.

HOSPICE THIS AFTERNOON

Plans for the day?

This morning, the usual housework, and hopefully some blog reading!
It's becoming a once a month thing!

Too much life to be lived, so blog reading is missing out!

I spent quite a bit of time last night mucking around with cameral settings. Still totally in the dark!
I might have to devote an entire day to watching the DVD that came with my camera, to learn a bit more.  The bloody thing is worse than a computer! ISO, Exposure, Multi shots, Flash, Focus... shit the things to learn about.

And let's not forget, sometime this week my new sewing machine is arriving, and then it will be all about learning how to use it too!

It's got a touch screen for changing stitches, sizes, widths yadda, yadda, bla bla bla.

MINDBOGGLING.

I need more buggers to photograph!  Right now it's just them in this house who get the paparazzi treatment!

Brylee spent most of yesterday in bed, sore tummy... but didn't get sick properly.  I think she did the right thing.  When I was feeling dreadful, lying down sure helped.

Anyway... here's a cute collage from last night:

 ABOVE:  happy days.

I popped onto Facebook quickly last night, and came across these gorgeous toys...

LINK: https://www.facebook.com/cocomellowpoppets.

I may have to email the maker for her pattern. I think I saw it for sale on her Facebook page.
So darn cute.

Ok... time to get moving...

ONWARD...

So, I'm sitting here reading blogs, making comments etc, and me phone rings.
It's CAROL from 'the sewing machine shop'!!!

MY DREAMWEAVER IS HERE!  OMG OMG... I am leaving right now to get it.  I can have a lesson on it tomorrow.  Cos I've got to work this afternoon, and there won't be time to pick it up, stay for a lesson and then go to work!

OMG I'm so excited....

SEE! SEE!  ... he is here.  And now... I've gotta go and work at the Hospice Shop.  I am taking the instruction manuals with me and if I get a chance I will pour over them.

FROGGY!  You have one?  OMGosh, yes you can probably give me some tips... when I get to a 'problem'!

I'M SMILING EAR TO EAR RIGHT NOW.

ANOTHER CRAP WEATHER DAY

Seriously shitty weather out there today, a re-run of yesterday really.  At least it's not cold.

I stayed up really late last night... wasn't tired.  Probably down to having a nana nap after lunch yesterday... and being totally idle.

I hope my energy levels get back to normal soon... it's a pain in the arse not having any energy.

I took a few photos last night of my sewing area... AGAIN... cos I want to see just how much bigger my new machine is compared to Lemony.  I am sure it's physically bigger.
Time will tell.
I've also put my mobile side table in the sewing area, it gives me just that much more 'bench top' area to work with. (it's the one with me diet coke on it)  It amazes me just how much bench/table room I seem to need.

ABOVE:  My 'happy place'.  That is not LEMONY, it's the loaner.  I am never seeing Lemony again.  What. A. Relief.

It took me over 4 years to give that machine a name!  Now... I am already thinking of a name for my new Brother Dreamweaver!

Any ideas?  I am still drawing a blank.

I have one thing on my mind today, and that is to get back to my Dresden Plate Quilt!
Everything that made me put it aside is done, so ...

ONWARD...

Sheesh, almost forgot!   I've lost 7.65 kilos since January.  Fairly happy with that, though I think a couple will be from being ill for 24 hours.

Stew and I just did the grocery shopping.  And as per usual, we did a guess each on the total before entering checkout.
I guessed $701.00 and Stew guessed $720.00.
I WON.  It was $700.16.  I was only out by 84 cents!

It's all home and away in cupboards/fridges/laundry etc, so now we can sit down and relax for the afternoon.

At some point I am going to whip up those 'blanks' for my new machine, then get on with my Dresden Plate quilt.  I have now realised if I don't get it finished before getting my Brother Dreamweaver, I will have to finish off my quilt with another decorative stitch, or one that is hopefully very similar to the one I've been using with Lemony.  I don't think that will matter too much... hopefully.

CHRISTINE:  you must have plain malt biscuits/sweetened condensed milk and soft lollies where you live surely?   Send me your address and I will send you some Eskimo lollies, so you can then compare them to what is available where you live. ( stewandchris@hotmail.com )

***  Anyone else who wants me to do that, just ask in an email, and give me your address. ***

Seems a few people have been able to find Pascal Eskimo sweets at Woolworths and IGS shops in Brisbane.  So they must be around in Aussy!  Hunt in ya International aisle.  For UK/USA I will send you some if ya want.  Just email me.

We had a lovely afternoon playing cards and snacking... then I kinda fell asleep for a while, and now it's dinner time!

Whoops.  Another night where I won't be tired at bedtime.

End of Day:  well it's been a thoroughly lazy kind of weekend... got bugger all done, but so what?  No one cares if the vacuming didn't get done, or the clothes are still waiting to be folded and put away.  It's another day tomorrow.

A BIRTHDAY, AND A STORM, BUT NOT IN A TEA CUP

A VERY BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BEX TODAY!
We were supposed to be taking her and the family out to Yum Char for lunch.
But the bloody tummy bug from hell has put a screeching halt to that.  Another time Bex. Sorry.
I'm sure we shall still have a nice day...  but well....  This country is expecting a bit of a battering from Cyclone Lusi this weekend.

So no sunbathing it would appear.

Remember, I live in NEW ZEALAND, NOT Australia!

ABOVE:  Latest satellite pictures Cyclone Lusi heading our way.  While I hope it doesn't do too much damage... I still love storms and am looking forward to it.
But shish... don't tell anyone who hates storms!

ABOVE: Friday morning's sunrise in West Auckland.  That old saying "Red sky in morning, Shepherd's Warning,  Red Sky at night, Shepherds Delight"  would appear to be correct.

In between feeling bloody ill as a dog yesterday, I grabbed a few photos of Dante and the 'special' car...

ABOVE:  this little vintage car was given to Steve by his Grandma Harvey, when he was about 8 months old.  His Grandma died of Leukemia a couple of months later.  So, this is probably one of the only gifts he got from her.  So, it's special.

ABOVE:  it was equally special to see it in his baby son's hands yesterday.

ABOVE: Dante played with it for a little while... then he got his hands on my lens cap, and...

ABOVE:  he was faced with the decision.  Lens cap.... or car?  Can you guess what won?
It wasn't the car!  Funny little man.

ABOVE:  The face of exhaustion.  Still a bit pale around the gills.  Poor kid had the bug bad. He spent hours vomiting.  So glad I didn't get that bad.

The only two not to have caught the bug yet :  Bex and Brylee!  I hope they don't get it.  It's a really nasty bug.

So, today?  Quiet inside day I think.  IF the storm arrives, I hope to get a few photos.

I'm also going to try and find some videos on You Tube about the new sewing machine.
I am so excited!  It looks to have some really awesome stitches.  I can't wait to try it out.

ONWARD...

Well we are feeling so much better today.  Sad we had to cancel our yum char lunch... but we will have some takeaways for dinner instead, Bex gets to choose.

The weather is as expected, nasty.

Well... nothing is happening around here!  Everyone is just doing their own thing, watching TV, playing XBox, having a nap (ME) and staying dry.  Outside it's been pissing down, though right now it seems to have stopped.

It doesn't even seem like a storm, just rain and a bit of wind. Boring really.

LYNDA:  I just had a 'look' for that shop on Google Earth, and it doesn't look like it's there!

Google Earth might be out of date?  I might give them a phone call to make sure they are actually there before I drive over.  *smiles*
Thanks for the tip.

End of Day:  got no energy, even after having a good lunch and dinner.  Feel ikkk still.  And it's a sad state of affairs when you simply don't want to answer your own phone for fear of being screamed at.
nite nite
