I had totally forgotten what happens to my legs/feet over summer. Particularly when I'm sat sewing for hours on end.
Last night I put hair remover on me legs and was shocked at how much they had swollen up during yesterday's sewing session.
BTW: shaving works better than the hair removal cream, but I still find it easier to use the cream.
Back to the legs/feet:
ABOVE: Doing my 'party trick' and making dents in me legs. There's an ankle under there somewhere! My legs and feet were terribly swollen yesterday, so today I am taking a fluid retention pill to clear some of it. It means I shall be on the freakin' loo peeing half the day. Instead of just once in the morning and once at night.
Best I stay home today 😂.
I am planning on finishing the two Blue Wave Runners today, and perhaps starting another one as well. So, best I get on with it.
ABOVE: Oh yeah, the other thing I noticed last night... a bruise on the back of me foot. It's a bit sore, yet I have no idea what/how I did it? It's a strange place to get a bruise. Weird.
LOL, ya get all sorts on my blog eh?
1.43 pm:
I've been doing exactly what I said I would do... sewing and finishing off the latest two Blue Wave Runners.
ABOVE: That was a really good exercise, because it has shown me where my 'gaps' are. Clearly I need more greens.
So, when we go down to Palmerston North and Wellington on Sunday - Tuesday, I will stop in at a couple of fabric shops and see what they have.
Yes, we are going on a short trip down to Palmerston North to visit Mike and Joyce, Sandra, Chris, and Anne. After that, we are also visiting a dear friend in Wellington, before getting back here in time for Christmas.
It is going to be a bit rushed, with having the Tamahere Market on Saturday as well... but oh well. We will be sitting in the car for a lot of that time! lol
As for RIGHT NOW, I'm taking a break, putting me feet up and hoping to keep the swelling down.
I've piddled about 6-7 times this morning... which is great.
I am drinking 1.5 - 2 litres of FLUID a day, so don't know how I can be dehydrated? YES, it's Diet Coke... NO I won't drink water. So there.
We had a short/sharp Thunderstorm about an hour ago, it was spectacular! Lots of thunder, and pouring rain. Now? Sunshine and clear skies.
DEHYDRATION vs. FLUID RETENTION.
I have had FLUID RETENTION since I was in my early 20's. So over 47 years.
I have been seen by various doctors about it over all that time.
I have had tests until I'm blue in the face, heart checks, kidney checks, bla bla bla.
ALL have always come back as NORMAL.
There is no reason for the fluid retention, other than it is worse in hot weather. I still have it all year.
If I drink more, I do not pee more. If I drink less, I do not pee more.
I am usually a twice a day piddler. I am used to it. That is why I have to take fluid retention medication on and off, when it gets bad I take it more often.
My Doctor is well aware of this weird aspect of my body... and is not concerned as I have passed all the freakin tests thrown at me.
So calm down peeps, I know you all care, but I am fine.
Just got chunky legs/feet right now. 😂😉😊
SOMETIMES I think I share too much information. ???
9 pm: And I'm bloody KNACKERED. Sewing all day, and I've finished laying out the next one, which I will start stitching tomorrow.
And that is me done for today. I shall watch Coronation Street, then head off to bed.
Should be a nicer evening, the temperatures have dropped, thank goodness.
Catch ya tomorrow.

I know it's hot and uncomfortable, but grab yourself some good compression socks (you can get some really pretty ones!) and a floor fan if you're not near an air conditioner, for sewing days. It'll save you a lot of grief! xx Colleen
ReplyDeleteI use conditioner instead of shave foam and find that works well. Hubby was using shampoo but not conditioner so rather than waste it I gave it a try
ReplyDeleteYou don't drink enough!!! peeing only twice a day is not right...lol...everyones urine should be a light straw like colour....Peta
ReplyDeleteYes, not drinking enough water can absolutely cause swollen ankles (edema), because dehydration triggers your body to retain sodium and water as a survival mechanism, leading to fluid buildup, especially in the lower limbs. When you're dehydrated, your kidneys hold onto water, causing tissues to swell; drinking more water helps flush out excess fluids and improve circulation, counteracting this.
ReplyDeleteIt is usual to pee 4/6 times a day so I'm not sure why you only have to once in the morning and once at night. You could be dehydrated.

ReplyDeleteGet compression socks
I know you will not drink water as suggested 🤦♀️. Could you possibly at least drink cordial which is made with water 🤷♀️ there are so many possibilities to ensure you are hydrated. You are showing signs of either severe dehydration or fluid retention both of which have serious heath consequences. You will probably be annoyed with comments suggesting you drink more etc but the comments will only be out of concern for your health. I think a doctor’s visit is a must. Even if your swelling isn’t present when you attend you can show him/her the photos.
ReplyDeleteDiet Coke Side Effects
ReplyDelete1. It affects functioning of kidneys: Kidneys play an important role in removing harmful toxins from the body and detoxifying your blood. It also helps to maintain proper pH level of your body. Diet Coke’s pH is 2.51; hence, it is acidic in nature. If ingested in large amounts, Diet Coke can cause kidney problems such as kidney stones (they occur when excessive minerals and acids are present in your urine). The functioning of your kidneys can decline, if you consume greater than two Diet Coke cans in a day.
2. It causes dehydration: If you are feeling thirsty, Diet Coke should not be your choice of beverage to quench your thirst. It contains caffeine as one of the ingredients, which is a diuretic and causes dehydration. The symptoms of dehydration are dizziness, headache, increased heart rate, seizures and even death. Hence, it is advised that you drink water or herbal tea instead of diet coke to quench your thirst.
Why thank you for that information. I'll be sure to file it away.
DeleteApologies for my comment regarding possible health problems with your legs/feet swelling. You obviously have it all under control - maybe I should not have assumed that it wasn’t normal for you and your body 🤷♀️
ReplyDeleteAll good Chick... it is kinda normal for me. I should just accept that others don't know and might be worried. I appreciate the concern, I really do. Thank You.
DeleteInsulin resistance causes your body to produce excess insulin (hyperinsulinemia), which signals the kidneys to retain sodium and water, leading to fluid retention, bloating, and swelling (edema) in hands, feet, or belly, often worsening blood pressure. This sodium-retaining effect of insulin is amplified in insulin resistance, affecting kidney tubules and increasing overall fluid volume, which can contribute to hypertension. Managing insulin resistance through diet, exercise, and weight loss helps reduce this fluid buildup.
ReplyDeleteHow it works:
High Insulin Levels: When you're insulin resistant, cells don't respond well to insulin, so your pancreas pumps out more to keep blood sugar stable, resulting in high insulin (hyperinsulinemia).
Kidneys Hold Sodium: High insulin levels directly tell your kidneys to reabsorb more sodium and water back into the body instead of excreting them.
Water Follows Salt: Where sodium goes, water follows, leading to increased fluid volume and retention.
Increased Blood Pressure: This extra fluid and sodium load can raise blood pressure, a common issue alongside insulin resistance.
Insulin resistance is also the main driver of type 2 diabetes. If you have type 2 diabetes, without fail, you have insulin resistance and subsequently elevated insulin levels. Bet the docs never checked your fasted insulin levels though as that isn't shown on a standard blood test.
Shared with love. Eat in a manner to control your insulin levels, and a number of your health issues should resolve themselves.
You only pee twice a day!!! Lucky sod, I seem to be peeing twice an hour!!! Okay not that bad but a lot, especially after the first one which the kids refer to a “breaking the seal” 😂😂
ReplyDeleteHow to you have the cloth attached to the wall? Is each strip of cloth tacked to the board? Or is it hanging on a wire. Ky Girl
ReplyDeletePinned to a big foam sheet/board.
DeleteThnx. I was wondering. It is quite an array of strips. And I agree, you need more green. :-)
DeleteKy Girl
Will you still like me if I switch to Coke Zero? I have been drinking Diet Coke my ENTIRE life. Then one of the "movie stars" I worked with required Coke Zero on set. She convinced me to try it ... and... I like it.
ReplyDeleteBut of course! I have drunk Coke Zero sometimes. Each to their own.
DeleteI drink Diet coke No Sugar Reduced Caffeine. It's delicious. Have a bottle of water nearby to take my pills!
DeleteHappy travels, enjoy your time away.
ReplyDeleteI'm a coke zero girl. Don't like water. I drink coffee made with water..... and coke zero lol.
ReplyDeleteEveryone seems to be an expert. You know your body. Keep drinking your diet coke.
I think it's great you're spending some of the holidays with Mike & Joyce. You don't get to see the often & the mini vacation will do wonders. I love getting away even if its only for a few days.
ReplyDeleteMy legs do the same thing when I sew in the summer. I could drink a gallon of water but if I sit there all day they do that. Super annoying. They don't do it in the winter so I don't think I'm dying.
