Yes, a sleep in day.
The only thing we want to do today is go and buy a few more plants for the gardens.
I'm going to try and fill up the gardens so much that weeds don't even get a chance to grow.
I had thought of doing them all with weed matting and rocks/pots, but that would be a huge mission, not to mention cost.
So ... plant shopping today.
And that is about all I have for now.
Catch ya later.
Slight change of plans for the gardens. We are not buying more plants, we are...
ABOVE: We are using existing plants from the gardens, putting them in pots and putting down weed matting and rocks. Let's NEVER have to get the gardens weeded again. 🙂🫠
ABOVE: Then it was home to get the job done. I had thought we would just pot the plants and lay down the weed matting, and have Lacy put the rocks down tomorrow. But Stew had other ideas.
ABOVE: We stripped out the garden, potted what we wanted to keep, then Stew laid down the weed matting...
I have to buy two more bags of rocks tomorrow to finish it off.
But for now... how gorgeous does it look?
It should too, cos that was not cheap.
Well... I did spend quite a bit on the pots... and a blue bird bath.
Cos, well it was pretty.
It is now 2 pm, Stew has a headache, and my tummy is rumbling. Might just have some lunch.
We had a kebab for our lunch, then went to Palmers to look at their pots. I wanted 5 smaller pots for the long, narrow garden around the back.
ABOVE: And now I have more pots. I can start on that next garden on my own tomorrow, unless Lacy can come over and gimme a hand.
Let's just wait and see.
10.41 pm: Well I think Stew and I are both very happy with what we got accomplished today.
And on that note, I'm outta here.
It's bedtime.
Catch ya tomorrow.

I have a small, hand held sprayer (you could use on old bathroom cleaner bottle or something) and keep weedkiller in it. I spray the weeds between the plants every now and then and never have a weed problem. If you prefer not to use weedkiller then make up a natural version (lots of recipes online). It's the best method I've come across and only takes a couple of minutes.
ReplyDeleteYou will likely still have weeds, on top the weed cloth/under the rocks, but they pull up very very easily because the roots are not in the ground.

Oh my gosh that looks amazing!! You guys should be very proud of yourselves doing such a great job.
ReplyDeleteHi, the garden looks good, very colourful....do you feel more "settled" in your new home now? neighbours more friendly? Peta
ReplyDeleteYES on both counts. Though I'll never befriend them that got our shed removed, they can rot in hell. Everyone else seem nice.
DeleteChris, your garden looks awesome maintained just like that ! Robyn x
ReplyDeleteI thought lawn mowing and weeding was included in the village's amenities or was that wrong?
ReplyDeleteYou are correct, but I don't like having to 'bug' the gardeners to come and do the weeding when they are so very busy. It is a large village, with only 4 outdoor staff to keep it all tidy. The lawns are done very diligently, but the weeds? They tend to get a bit carried away at this time of year. I decided to just get the gardens as maintenance free as possible.
DeleteI know how you feel because it is the same in our village. There were 10 people doing our smaller village (48 villas) but they have changed contractors and now there are only 3/4 and not every day and people are complaining that the jobs are not being done. As little maintenance as possible is obviously the way to go but we haven't got a lot of weeding to do in our particular garden - we use weed spray as Linda recommended. Audrey
DeleteLooks wonderful. You two have worked very hard today, I can't believe what you got done by 2 pm!! Ky Girl
ReplyDeleteTime poor atm but have to say this lol
ReplyDeleteAll year round, you’ll be able to enjoy the Garden more now,
The Blue pots totally do it for me too.
Cheers 🥂
Your garden looks gorgeous! Great job! Laurie
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks beautiful. You must have both worked really hard to get that all done today.
ReplyDeleteSorry....it's Paula.
ReplyDeleteThe garden with the blue pots is lovely. You two put in a lot of work. Hope Lacey helps to finish it off so you can sit back and enjoy it all this summer.
ReplyDeleteThe garden looks great. Weeds are resilient little frickers and will try to grow up through the rocks - but they should be easy to find early and pull.
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty! Over time stuff flies onto the surface and grows. So annoying. I had put weed cloth down when we redid our front yard and now you can't even tell lol.
ReplyDeleteI love the garden! The blue pots are simply stunning. What a work out those rocks must have been for Stew. I hope his knee didn't give him grief.
ReplyDeleteI love how the rock gardens are coming along very colourful, and as you say easy maintainence.
ReplyDeleteThe garden looks awesome. The blue looks só gorgeous amongst the plants. Kj
