*DROOL*

ABOVE: our new bedlinen (minus the Stars and Stripes Bedspread for the end of the bed edit: I'm still waiting for the bedspred to arrive from Australia)

ABOVE: my homemade co-ordinates are a PERFECT match! Chuffed about that I am.

ABOVE: different view, still gorgeous, no matter where you view it from! *smiles*

TODAY! ! ! Kids go back to SCHOOL.... and I couldn't be happier.I am going to walk them to school, say 'Hi' to their new teachers and then go for a walk before heading home. And that is hopefully going to be my new routine. Hopefully, all going well.

ONWARD.... DONE! Kids are back at school, said hello to their teachers and went for a walk. It's stinking hot out there! I nearly died from the heat....

.... So I'm taking a well earned rest! LOL

TEDDY is joining me in that rest! He just loves his 'girlfreind' so much... awwwwww...
***I think I mentioned it lately, I am trying to do 'Low Carbs'... but keep hitting a wall mid afternoon... when I get the shakes, break out in a cold sweat and feel DREADFULLY ILL. The only thing that stops this is to eat something high in carbs really quick! HOW can I get over this stumbling block, cos it's not NICE! All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
***PEPSI HAS FINALLY BEEN UPDATED***
End of another Stinking hot day. And that's is all I have to say now. nite nite.

  4. Love the new look :) what is it about navy, red and white that always looks so good?
Re the carbs, the only thing I can suggest is perhaps to have a couple of non-low carbs (not high, but medium sorta) at lunch time to try and stop the mid afternoon wall. Otherwise maybe try something like fruit, or a cup of tea/coffee. Sounds like withdrawal :(

  6. Hi Chris. Well done on going on a walk - even in the stinking heat of Auckland.

Re the shakes, cold sweat and feeling dreadfully ill - its possibly because your blood sugar (glucose) levels are dropping too low as a result of not having sufficient carbs. Diabetics are very familiar with this - but some people that aren't diabetic are prone to "Hypoglycemia" as well. I have two friends who have been diagnosed with Hypoglycemia, who aren't diabetic. It is a fine line for some people between too much carbs and not enough. Carbs after all boost the glucose (blood sugar) levels in our bloodstream. Try having a couple of jellybeans or a barley sugar when you are feeling this way and see if it makes a difference. One of my best friends has been diagnosed with Hypoglycemia by her doctor and he suggested the above, and it works well for her. Hypoglycemia can be dangerous if not treated at the time and the blood sugar levels drop too low - e.g. unconsciousness, coma etc. My brother (as a diabetic) has put us through this stress on more occasions than I'd like to remember when he's gone "no or too low-carbs" in his diet. You might want to talk to your doctor about it at some point if it continues.

  10. Nice bedroom. It does look lovely all together! I hope the stars blanket won't be too much.

Re the carbs, what does Stew do? Coz he would have experienced the same thing when he first started? See a dietition for advise. Allthough my dietition advised me not to go without carbs because we need them to a certain degree.

  12. Linen looks very nice!

try an apple. supposedly they are great for boosting weight loss. according to a diet plan I downloaded from the web, eat apples when you get hungry and they help boost weight loss. doesn't work for me, cause they give me terrible indigestion and wind, but hey, that's just me :-)

otherwise you could try a slice of grain toast. with a scrape of butter or plain peanut butter.

  13. Re the carbs....I found when I was doing low carbs I got this as well. Its a low blood sugar thing, because of course carbs turns into sugar.
I found that if i done low carbs and high protein I managed this well. Eat protein at every meal, especially lunch and it should help the mid afternoon lull. Or when the lull comes mixed nuts are great, especially brazillian nuts and cashews, just a few tho! It's just the body adjusting :)

  16. OK just looked up Tom's article about WW and low carbs and what you are experiencing is "carb withdrawl". Its a bit like giving up anything - you will get symptoms. It takes the body a few days to adapt to lower carbs. I never had that many carbs in the first place so perhaps that is why I never had this.

  23. Hi.

Dyslexia. Forget our education system. Speld are the only useful organisation and you will be amazed if you are able to attend some of their organisations parents meetings too. Our 3 sons are dyslexic and nothing much has changed in 40 years except that a few teachers recognise the symptoms and some schools are sympathetic about reader writers for exams etc. I have it on good authority that going to your Dr. with children who have learning and behaviour difficulties is more effective than going through the Education services. There is too much 'old school' traditional thinking in ed. and not enough funding in the right places. Too many reports and not enough action. Too much dependence on their own theories and not enough on what parents say.

Your Bedroom set looks great. You certainly made an excellent job of co-ordination.

Low Carb. Check out the hyperglycemia issue. In the meantime you can do this by making sure you eat something every 3 hours. Everytime you eat sweet stuff or other low GI Carbs there is a sugar peak then sudden drop.It can take a few weeks for your body to adjust to the changed style of eating. I'm not doing so well now so having to modify what worked last time. I found it took me 2 or 3 months before the sluggish dips became insignificant. It's a pain but true that persistence and consistence is the only way to win.

If you want to learn more I can lend you an excellent book on the Lean For Life Program.

Beach House. Will you still be coming to Whitianga/Mercury Bay area.

  25. Hi ya,

I am doing low carbs to, and sometimes get that mid afternoon low where I feel like something sweet and FAST.

I don't eliminate all carbs, only the complex ones such as potato, bread etc so the way I get around the mid afternoon thing is to have some fruit on hand. Normally a sweet juicy apple does the trick but this week its been plums and blueberries. I also LOVE a large glass of low cal L & P which is nice and sweet and seems to settle the sugar low (or whatever it is) really nicely.

Doesn't it always get nice and hot once the schools go back. Good for you getting out and walking.

Hope you find a solution to the shakes and the sweats, definitely not eating the right balance. Take care.

I eat low carb on and off and if I get the shakes/light headed thing I find the best thing is to eat something really high in fat. ie a spoonful of (non sweetened) whipped cream, a slice of cheese, some salami smeared with a bit of cream cheesse. I find that always makes me come right.

  32. Your bed linens look wonderful, and the handmade coordinates look as though they all came together as a set! Great job!

Sorry to hear you've been feeling bad/ill when you cut back on your carbs. Every once in a while I get that shaky, icky feeling. I'm pretty sure it's my body saying I need food (aka sugar). Sometimes a mix of protein and fruit or carbs helps. I try to find some almonds or pecans and maybe a piece of cheese, some dried cranberries also help and in a few minutes I'm doing better.
